Certainly it is no surprise you believe this a productive use of people's time. It's as useful as pursuing 60 court cases about the mythical "election fraud" instead of addressing the second wave of Covid or the power grid in Texas. God, you're dumb as rocks.
If you think it’s a good idea then you’re all set. I think the republicans are misreading the room. The country is ready to move on and Biden said this was part of what was needed to get through this during the election and was voted in based in part on it. This is not a wall mexico will pay for. This is a Biden “promise made, promise kept” issue. Republicans are throwing themselves in front of a bus for no reason here. When the smoke clears, this will be a Big Biden/Democrat win and they should have jumped on the bus instead in front of it. What I will say is Biden better watch his left though. Progressives are already grumbling and not happy with the minimum wage stuff. Things can get testy when the actual reconciliation happens.
TreeFrogTrader is still concerned about Canada's Covid efforts seemingly oblivious to the fact Covid is still three times worse in the US. Of course you better get the vaccines rolling fast there are too many clueless American's still spreading the disease. It makes absolute sense that TreeFrogTrader supports the Republican's no matter how stupid they get.
These stimulus checks are really, really stupid. I did not make $75k in 2019. I made $315k in 2020 and I've already taken home more than $300k in 2021 (thank you Reddit). I got the $1200 and $600 check. Now, I'm going to get the $1400 check as I haven't filed my 2020 taxes yet. I will after I get this check and then I'll get a big refund too. I think my tax rate is unfairly high so I'm going to keep the $3200 I received, but clearly didn't need. I realize I'm an extreme outlier, but plenty of people such as retirees are getting these checks too. This policy is poorly targeted. Most people getting these checks aren't doing any worse than last year. Yet the debt is skyrocketing.
I think a lot of people are overthinking this. These payments are really a stimulus and capturing a 5% of people who don’t qualify because of different tax years is quibbling. We want a robust economy going into summer so we can start shutting down all of the emergency support. Take your $1400 and buy a washing machine or something and be happy.
Most people who have not lost their jobs will just rush over to Walmart or Amazon to buy some more shiite. That will help those companies because they have suffered so much during lockdown. OR NOT. People raise eyebrows over some tech companies trying to bring company stores or the equivalent in Nevada. Meanwhile they let the federal government take actions that turned Amazon and Walmart into the company stores for America during lockdown- and longer since they used it to drive their competitors out of business. Let's just say that in most towns things are bit more peppy over at Walmart and Amazon then they are down on main street. The stimulus checks will end out there too, again, for those who have not lost their incomes during the pandemic. Everything is beautiful for Walmart and Amazon. Pandemic has been the best thing to happen to them, just as it has for the democrats. More viruses to come probably. This first one has worked out well for the dems and their chinese buddies can always crank out another one.
Everything is usually great for big businesses in America. You don’t see them giving back tax cuts and credits when they have record profits and increased market share. Yet Mr. KMGilroy wants to give back his stimulus because he says he had a banner year. That disconnect right there is what is absurd in America. The American people need to start actually putting themselves ahead of these big businesses or at least thinking like them. On the Republican philosophy it’s great to give the wealthy and corporations huge tax cuts and credits but they snub their nose at working people getting something from the government. Biggest scam in America - socialism for the rich and capitalism for the working class.
As I have said in a couple previous posts, I would have invoked emergency powers to impose a fair emergency tax on both- examples here- Walmart and Amazon. I would require them to redistribute a percentage of their "war profiteering" profits back to the zip codes where they were doing business. And it would be directed specifically toward frontline things such as food banks- no funny expenses involved. And directed toward assistance to small businesses shut down in their area while their business was handed on a silver platter to Walmart and Amazon The tax would be fair because they are in fact doing more work so should make more and at a level that is not intended to punish or anything like that. Now, let us agree that we know the dance here and some zambonis will rise to say that that kind of intervention is not free market and/or conservative or words to that effect. Let me answer that in this way: I don't care. Having said that, it is actually a free market issue. Walmart and Amazon are getting war profiteering levels of profit from government shut down on business. If an emergency makes it necessary, well, this can happen. But to the extent that it can end out helping more than just the gravy-trainers, then that is appropriate and needed. This horseshit of Americans standing in line for food while Walmart is not even giving out a free banana in town, is bullshit.
