In other words you have no credible source that shows 20% of US child tax credits go to drugs and alcohol.Got it.
Note that my feedback is about families below the poverty level. The child care tax credit goes to families well above the poverty level as well. The bottom line is that benefits whether they are EBT, childcare credits, welfare or anything else designated to benefit children need to be spent for the benefit for the children. History has demonstrated that the best way to do this is not to provide cash directly -- but to provide vouchers for rent, EBT cards for food, child medical cards (for co-pays), direct utility payment, etc. Going to a system that simply hands out cash in the place of welfare benefits increases the risk to children -- because the sad reality is that there are parents/guardians who do not live up to their responsibilities. The bottom line if money is being given to guardians to spend for the benefit of the children then the money better be spent on the children. How will this be enforced. Teachers discovering kids are coming to school on Monday after not being fed all weekend is not an enforcement mechanism.
GWB doesn’t understand the child tax credit and is just trying to pick a bone with a stereotype from the 1980s.
You’re confused. I don’t know if there is a tax credit for “childcare.” Here is info on the child tax credit: https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/does-m...tax-credit-or-the-credit-for-other-dependents
Once again the proposal on the table is to convert the tax credit to a monthly direct payment of cash for families with children below a certain income level. I am addressing the issues with direct cash payments for children.
The current tax credit is a direct cash payment, too. To be fair this is considered an allowance and would not be dependent on filing status so it expands eligibility to 90% of families. https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/02/04/romney-child-benefit-stimulus/ I think your concerns about this proposal only implicate a very small percentage of people and does not raise a flag a reasonable person would consider serious.
