I'm not afraid of anything. Do you think people who wear seatbelts are "afraid" and shouldn't wear them ? If we are being honest here, I'm healthier then 95%++ people who post on this site, have never spent a day in hospital, needed surgery of any type, had only a few minor sports injuries my entire life that I took care of myself. I rarely if ever even get a common cold and can't remember the last time I had the flu. I would attribute that to a fitness regime since I was age 49, a fairly active lifestyle my whole life, giving up on booze for the most part many years ago, and some luck.
Canada didn´t even go through a strict lockdown, why would they go crazy about this ? Life in Switzerland wasn´t too dramatically altered either, people will be more relaxed about the whole thing. Emerging economies with poorly educated population went overboard with paranoia and restrictions, different issue, a bit upset Spain falls in the later group but not overly surprised. Just followed Quebec in Canada, life hadn´t changed much there afaik, dunno abt VAncouver, I´d be pretty pissed as well if living in the UK or Melbourne, although theose places usually don´t have much to envy to the rest of the world..
None of these negative outcomes you seem obsessed about exist in Canada. Without the actions taken, millions more would have died including some in horrendous situations. It's like some of you just can't grasp the cause and effect of any of this. The Swedish approach in the US there would have been a million dead by now.
So why are you on the bullshit side then ?? your side is the bullshit side. SWEDEN limited restrictions, UK / Spain loads and the charts are exactly the damn same. And there won't be a 2nd wave Spain or UK, it's BS, give it up.
But you can't prove millions more would of died, it's BOLLOX, SWEDEN no lockdowns and Same result, why can't you see that. They claim, MILLIONS will die, then they do something that doesn't have any real change on the deaths, then when a much smaller number die they can claim they've saved millions, when in reality they've just over estimated the deaths on purpose to claim the credit.
The initial lockdown was strict in Canada. We just accepted it easier then most places. We also got lucrative govt subsidies if we needed it so nobody was truly in trouble the first few months. Anyone who couldn't go to work got $2K Cdn per month for each previously working person in their household. There were also rent and mortgage deferrals.
I´m seeing the damage trying to keep covid in check is doing, and that´s the ugliest thing I´ve seen my entire life, in such scale at least.
Unchecked would have been much, much worse. A staged reopening after a full lock down was always the best solution. The timing of the stages is just details that could be altered at any point reflecting the uncertainties. I see people pushing strategies on here that clearly didn't work as well as Canada, Korea, ... . I can't force you to look past the excuses ( like density ) and consider what is out there. Basically, every community and country chose their outcome. Many, many months ago I said I'm comfortable with what Canada was doing seemed like a sensible compromise between various risks. However, certainly the attitude of the public re safety is/was important.
Not sure you know what we are talking about, the first lockdown in Spain: Non essential business closed plus Not allowed to leave the house except for essential matters Not allowed to leave the house even for stretching outside, kids locked in 24/7 from 6 to 8 weeks (there was a multistep easing of restrictions, first step allowed kids to go play around their house at specific times, not sure it came after 6 or 8 weeks) Fines 600euros and up, people calling the cops on joggers and calling the same joggers murderers. My cousin in Quebec was posting pics of him fishing with at least 1 mate during the lockdown... I heard abt the 2000cad a month subsidy in canada, didn´t know whether it was true. Plenty of people on some kind of covid subsidies in Spain, but smaller, it was already a relatively poor western country with high unemployement, especialy among the youth who are again hit verty hard. Small business (lots of very small businesses in Spain) getting butchered, worst PIB loss and perspective for next year of all EU countries (I´m a passive investor, out of the spanish market, so with all central banks interventions, this year is far better financially than it could have been) Cost is not only financial, public health, physical and mental, probably hit hard, couples splitting all over the places, kids suffering, their education, already of low level by oecd markers, getting worse.
Again, Sweden showed imo how much the lockdown were suspicious, but I´d have a different pov possibly if I spent this never ending lockdown in a more sensible country. Spain is a good instance of how a lockdown just defers the infections, we are in deep trouble again (number of cases, not death ), less people afraid this time but we still don´t have strong politicians like in the US who say Stop to this nonsense
