COVID-19: I’m Treating Too Many Young People for the Coronavirus

Discussion in 'Wall St. News' started by schizo, Mar 27, 2020.

  1. Exactly. It’s why the media is so hard at work to convince the groups without the risk factors that they are somehow involved. This is wartime and as they say, “truth is the first casualty”.

It’s a tricky job. If one is a millennial with no comorbidities, the health risks are pretty contained. Assuming the stats above are true, chances of dying are close to zero (likely 0.2% * 0.8% within some statistical bounds) and chances of getting sick enough to be hospitalized are small. However, he/she is the primary candidate for being unemployed amid the shutdown and living with a permanent financial dent. Imagine someone coming to you and asking to give them a 100k so a random old fart who you never met gets a better chance form survival.

My thinking is that we are going to see more propaganda about how this is an illness for everyone. Most probably, we are also going to see more evidence to the contrary and sooner or later it’s going to destabilize the society (I can imagine Russian trolls are coming up with the idea right now).

Personally, I think they should create a perception that the boomer generation is thankful for the millennial sacrifice and will pay back. Have not seen a single shred of this in the media, instead see a lot of jawboning.

Afraid it won t be that simple, as long as there is no other containment solution than the lockdown, lifting it would likely mean cases will shoot up again.

Agree with this, I follow less spanish than english language news, but what I read from Spain over the last few weeks reeked of propaganda rather than news, the case of a 16 y o dying in France while infected of coronavirus but with no other info on his health was front page news yeaterday btw, there is a strong push to convince the youth they are very much at risk, and I´m hearing many are indeed scared. The opposition in Spain besides attacking the central government, sometimes for good reason, seems largely in favour of tougher measures. Might be the Vox leader or another dude from the opposition who´s been claiming lately something in the line of :

"Spain must lock itself harder or there won´t be any more country" which sounds stupid considering the stats on the epidemy, but that´s roughly the message conveyed here day in day out

  6. Good. We get the point. How many of these 18-44 recovered, how many died? How many days did they need to recover? Any of these already with pre-conditions? How many 18-44 year old have statistically preconditions?

One thing is to report from ONE hospital in ONE shoft through ONE course.

Another is to have verifiable, reliable and up-to-date statistics!

  10. I am sure if you were part of the group with the risk factors (elderly or/and with preexisting conditions), you would sound very different. You'd also sound very different if you had clsoe relatives within those risk groups.

The idea of the society is that we pool our resources together and apply them to the problems beyond the private scope. We already do this for other cases like wars, natural disasters and matters of national security (e.g. farm subsidies). It's only natural that extreme measures were few are saved at a great economic cost also happen. Predictably, a lot of the application is based on lies or manipulation. Also, the politicians and the media will be the winners at the end.
