I bet you don't believe in Holocaust either because you've never seen it with your two eyes. There are couple things that I'm personally concerned about. First is the mutation of the virus. We know that the Flu virus returns every year in its mutated form and Corona will be no different. From what I have been hearing, Corona changes its genome every time it infects someone. This means that the virus you have might not be the same one that I have. Second, it's the reinfection. There are articles on the Internet that says reinfection is not possible and there are those that says it is. But if you come down with the mutated virus, although still Corona, I don't see why you can't be reinfected. Hence my rationale is this. While you think you might be okay because you are relatively healthy, you still can get sick and suffer from pneumonia. This will ultimately compromise your immunity. Then suppose you get infected again within a short period of time, say, 3-6 months. By then, you will not be able to withstand the infection due to compromised health and you could sadly be one of the statistics. "Of the (New York) city's 25,573 coronavirus cases, nearly half were age 18 to 44. Only two percent were under 18 years old." --NBC News
There just cases, just whiney millennial that don't feel very well and complain till they get themselves tested, normal adults are just getting on with it. You LITERALLY can't get infected again, that's just STUPID, stop even going on about that. Mutated Virus will be a different virus, having this previous might build up your immunity depending on how different it is, but it'll be a Patient Zero to the World all over again, just like this 1.
What makes ET such a great forum is the diverse opinions, the back and forth arguments, the pros and cons on many topics. It is not the differences in opinions about how deadly, how widespread or the fairness/correctness of reporting but rather the appalling lack of compassion, empathy & cruel language you displayed that sadden me. When a doctor risking his life, day in and day out, talking about sickness and suffering, you call it propaganda? Maybe OP is bias, maybe OP has some agenda but at least acknowledge the good doctor's dedication to helping society. Heaven forbid, one day you get sick you encounter a doctor with your attitude: Dying? Big deal, just propaganda. Americans are some of the most compassionate, kind and generous people in the world. Please don't prove me wrong.
Speaking with friends and relatives in France and Italy it seems to be the same. Escalating fines for violating the lockdown. Those who have larger properties are not complaining as much as those in apartments in the city. The mood is, if you know someone who has personally died it is scary, if you don't know anyone, it is just the flu. The economic and psychological damage will really depend on how long the lockdown lasts. As long as the daily death rates are going up the lockdowns will not be lifted. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/spain/
Man, you keep comparing COVID-19 to the ordinary FLU. COVID-19 IS NOT A FLU. That would be as STUPID as comparing AIDS to syphilis and trying to cure AIDS with penicillin.
I am not trying to diminish the seriousness of situation, but there is a lot of statistical fallacies there even before we get to the point of manipulation by omission (e.g. NYC report page below used to show deaths by age group and it does not any more): https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/imm/covid-19-daily-data-summary.pdf). Most importantly, corona virus "cases" are not identified as hospitalized, but rather as presenting symptoms. Anyway, mainstream media aside (a) CDC study shows that both ICU admissions and deaths are highly correlated with age: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6912e2.htm (b) Chinese study shows case fatality rates by age and by comorbidity (a.k.a preexisting conditions): https://jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...ontent=tfl&utm_term=022420&mod=article_inline (c) Here is fairy comprehensive analysis of fatality rates: https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/global-covid-19-case-fatality-rates/ One of the studies they cite is from Italy that analysed 355 fatalities and found only three patients (0.8%) had no prior medical conditions. That's consistent with the Chinese results of low CFR without preexisting conditions. In short, if you are younger and healthy, there is far less to fear. Unfortunately, the morbid jokes about this virus being the "Boomer Remover" and reducing our pension obligations are mostly true.
Thanks for the info. Here's my bone of contention. As you can see from the NYC report, the largest age group among the patients is between 18 and 44. No doubt, being young and healthy, they will likely recover. But, also being the most active, they are the ones who will most likely spread the virus, especially those who are most vulnerable, eg. the elderly and the sick. In short, they are the incubators and the carrier of the virus. However, some have been so damn recklessly irresponsible, it's pissing me off to no end. For instance, Mardi Gras and the Spring Breakers. All boneheads.
