The top leaders of nearly all the parties in Australia are calling protests completely unacceptable in the era of COVID, and demanding that all the protestors be arrested for violating public health laws.

Black Lives Matter protests 'completely unacceptable', Scott Morrison says in call for demonstrators to be charged

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has demanded an end to further Black Lives Matter protests, saying some protests have been hijacked by left-wing movements and demonstrators at future events should be charged.

Mr Morrison has previously urged Australians not to attend the mass protests against Indigenous incarceration rates and deaths in custody, citing the risk of COVID-19.

Today he ramped up his rhetoric, saying developments overseas, where protesters have torn down statues of historical figures deemed responsible for atrocities such as slavery and genocide, showed the Black Lives Matter movement had been "taken over by much more politically driven left-wing agendas".

"We've got to be honest about our history, we've also got to respect our history as well," he said.

"This is not a licence for people to go nuts on this stuff."

He accused protesters of setting back efforts to lift coronavirus restrictions.

"Certainly any further action on this front would be absolutely unacceptable," he said.

"The double standards that [protesters] allowed themselves to perpetrate by turning up has offended, rightly I think, Australians right across the country.

"The way that it was done and the suggestion that they might do it again risks public support for even the issue they raise."

Mr Morrison said protesters who attended rallies in breach of public health orders should face charges.

Doctors said the man may have been infectious at the protest, but was unlikely to have contracted the virus there.

A rally is being planned for tomorrow evening in Sydney, to protest against the number of black deaths in custody in Australia.

The protest is being opposed by police on public health grounds, as is another planned protest on the rights of refugees.

Mr Morrison said while the issue of Indigenous incarceration was one worthy of protest, it was not appropriate for advocates to gather en masse during a pandemic.

"The rally last weekend is the only legitimate real blocker to [easing restrictions further] at the moment, because we actually don't know whether those rallies on the weekend may have caused outbreaks," he said.

"It just puts a massive spanner in the works."

One of the organisers for tomorrow's protest, Raul Bassi, said he would "wait and see" before deciding whether the rally would go ahead.

"Yes the virus is a big problem," he said.

"But we think there is another virus going around, and we have to respond now.

"That virus is the virus based in racism. It's a virus that kills Aboriginal people."

Mr Morrison's calls were echoed by crossbench senator Jacqui Lambie, who said the risk of a second wave of coronavirus was too great.

"I just find this really, really reckless," she said.

"If Black Lives Matter so much then why are you putting them at risk?"

Yesterday, four Labor MPs were sent home from Parliament and told to get tested for COVID-19 "as an abundance of caution", after attending rallies over the weekend.

Two have since returned negative tests.

Shadow minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney labelled the Prime Minister's rhetoric inflammatory.

"What's absolutely crucial is people make their decisions after they consider the health advice," she said.

"The last thing we need at the moment are statements such as the Prime Minister's, which are quite contentious and antagonistic.

"What's required right now is strong political leadership and understanding that people are very serious about deaths in custody."

Labor leader Anthony Albanese, whose multicultural affairs spokesman is calling for a national action plan to combat racism, backed the Prime Minister's calls for protesters to stay home.

"Listen to the health advice, simple as that," he said.

The spikes now are well within the COVID-19 incubation periods. We now have everyone from national guard members and police officers coming down with COVID from these riots.

Dr. Birx Says George Floyd Protests Have Resulted in the Destruction of 70 Covid-19 Testing Sites
    https://www.nationalreview.com/news...the-destruction-of-70-covid-19-testing-sites/

Dr. Deborah Birx, President Trump’s coronavirus response coordinator, warned the nation’s governors on a conference call that 70 coronavirus testing sites had been destroyed amid widespread protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

During the Monday call, a recording of which was obtained by the Daily Beast, Birx said governors should “scramble now to make sure there is testing available in urban areas.” Vice President Mike Pence, the head of the White House coronavirus task force, said that spikes in cases stemming from the unrest are “an issue our team is following and there is a concern.”

Birx’s comments mirror those of Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has raised concerns that the protests could lead to a spike in cases. “It’s a perfect set up for further spread of the virus in the sense of creating these blips which might turn into some surges,” Fauci admitted on local D.C. radio station WTOP last week.

Members of the Washington, D.C., National Guard have already tested positive for coronavirus since being deployed on May 31 to help deal with mass demonstrations and rioting in the nation’s capitol.

  4. This really isn't a problem because Covid doesn't go anywhere near Antifa, rioters, or large congregations of protesters. The Orwellian Ministry of Science says so.

Here4dnc's mission is to douche up all thoughts and facts which show the DNC's platform to be as absurd as it usually is.

If his talking points address the issue he will deploy those.

If he can make up his own argument he frequently makes a failing one.
Otherwise he makes posts to douche, distract and derail...

Its a pernicious and disgusting pattern he exhibits over and over again.

There are other posters who exhibit the same behavior but are worse... they will do the same thing but they we try and get personal and make shit up about people.

here4dnc at least has some standards...
I have most of the other dickheads on ignore.

As I post this I realize once again... why I left.
Ignore works... but there are so many lefties who make shit up or try to out people on this site... its not what it was.

So the news today said Covid Cases are spiking....
The question is... is it spiking because of more testing or more infections being spread because lockdown restrictions are easing?

I don't know.... which is why I will keep watching this. However it is not a perfect indicator because its not likely to be based on random samples.

yes, so they've tested positive, it's the "from these riots" source I'm requesting. It was widely reported & known that sick cops & guardsman were deployed & out in the field....i guess the "since being deployed" clarifies it. But yes, I'll admit to have skimmed through the article. And yes, it's perfectly logical to expect people to get sick when tons of cops were not wearing masks (as well as protesters) and they're launching tear gas making people gasp for air.

So I heard today that Covid cases are rising in California, Florida, ... and all I could think of is that's where some of idiot posters on here live who have been complaining about the lockdown every day for weeks now. Hardly a coincidence. I'm sure you are doing your part to get everyone infected.
