I think they wanted them to spend that extra money on the economy to help support it... To give that illusion that everything was OK going into the Presidential elections. Personally, I saw the extra money as a bribe for votes. In fact, they'll need to do another stimulus package because folks are pssst about other issues to prevent a government coup. wrbtrader
%% True; but if he did a veto on every stupid bill or every 100% stupid free bill congress passed / most likely nothing/including the budget would pass...………………………………………………………………………………………..
%% Sounds right on that; + some in congress enjoy enslaving/controlling every little thing. Some wisely said all gov paychecks should also stop during a quarrentine= good limit gov idea/ i like that one...........................................................................................................
Unemployment benefits ( the additional enhanced payment) is the same as PPP given to businesses to keep employees paid. Without any of the above we would be in serious trouble.
Who is eligible for enhanced unemployment? If you've been laid off or furloughed, you're eligible to apply for unemployment benefits from the state where you live. Once the state approves your claim, you're eligible to receive whatever state benefits you're entitled to -- as well as Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation funding up to $600 per week, provided by the federal government. How does the CARES Act help people who have been laid off or furloughed? Each state has its own criteria for who is eligible to receive unemployment -- and what those benefits entail. This includes how much money you're eligible to receive, which is usually based on your income, and how long you're eligible to receive it, which is usually based on how long you held your most recent job. The CARES Act provided a booster fund -- adding up to $600 extra per week -- while also extending states' unemployment benefits to a maximum of 39 weeks instead of the typical 26 weeks.
Without any of the above the markets would be at least 40% lower. And iffffff they don't extend enhanced unemployment benefits and give more stimulus money out to tens of millions of people and don't assist small businesses the market will fall easily 20-25% in a week or 2. The fed and congress will NOT take this chance so this is why the biggest stimulus in history will all be approved by mid JULY . As soon as congress is in session after 4th of July holiday the new stimulus bill will be approved in about a week to 2.
BTW... the $600 fed payment applies to gig workers too. So in addition to being laid off or furloughed, reduction in hours and the knock-on effect of fewer to none customers qualifies. I know 2 that are collecting. This came out after market close. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/26/the-extra-600-unemployment-benefits-will-end-before-july-31.html
The article is worthless. If you read it carefully it doesn't mean benefits are ending before July 31st. Enhanced benefits are going through the entire month, Its just that July 31st is a Friday and unemployment benefits payout ends on a Saturday so last enhanced bemefits will come days before on July 25 or 26th. So they ARE GETTING their ENHANCED unemployment benefits a few days early. Its such an idiotic foolish article that has a completely false headline written to make you believe they cut out the extra enhanced benefits weeks and weeks before they were supposed to end. And guess what it won't make a difference because ENHANCED unemployment benefits WILL be extended. There is no way they take that risk of not extended them or the other government stimulus. They need consumers to keep consuming to keep the economy humming along.
