Because the market isn't up 50%+ from just 6 short months ago. Man are bulls ever so greedy for even more upside in this market.
The market has a serious problem going higher. In the absence of great news, we're going down. I plan on liquidating my longs at around S&P 1032. Carl Swenlin believes a serious correction is in order. http://www.decisionpoint.com/ChartSpotliteFiles/090904_lb.html
What heck are you talking about lack of liquidity? Didn't you watch fed fund rate overnight and LIBRO? Maybe there are less funds/mortgages/loans for average people on the street, doesn't mean there aren't any liquidity in the market. Yeah, I was shopping for a vehicle before this long weekend, commercial loan rate is 7.99%, so I paid cash for a 2010 vehicle.
Add Carl to the long (and growing) list of people calling for a correction that has never materialized.
Many (most) people buy because stocks have been going up recently. It works until it doesn't. Then they sell because the market went down. They buy high and sell low.
