Ya know, I caught a lot of flak for this thread.... In a big way. "Oh Apple will never go into the car business".... blah blah blah. Ok so they didn't chose Ford to get in bed with, they chose Hyundai. Whatever. Bottom line.... I was on the money 4 years ago. Apple is going into cars.
If Apple were to buy Ford, it's bad news for US Ford factories. Apple out shut all the US factories and move all manufacturing to China just like iPhone.
I understand what you're saying 100%.... but just imagine what the stock would do if Cooke said he was keeping it over here. And before you retort with logic.... ....allow me to point out the market in general for the last 8 months. Logic matters not. Despite the division in our country atm.... part of me suspects we're still American proud. I'm right on that. We are.
Apple should buy benz. that's a 70bn market cap. The issue with Apple buying any car company is the dealer network. Somewhere it was written that tesla's profit margins are 100% the dealer compensation that legacy car manufacturers have to pay.
Post didn't age well. Apple is moving production out of China (with curiously, no not really, assistance from subs Foxconn Pegatron and Wistron), to India and elsewhere. They are doing fine doing what they do. Meanwhile Ford would be smart to continue to go it alone except for some technology joint ventures with whom they deem right.
Meanwhile I come across this somewhat related story today from yesterday:- DOJ charges former Apple engineer with theft of autonomous car tech for China https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/16/doj...utm_medium=newsletter&utm_source=morning_brew
Apple never buys outside technology. They make everything in-house. Beats (Dr. Dre's headphone company) was the rare exception. If my time in the software industry taught me anything, Apple's strategy is the correct one. Every company my old company bought was a nightmare to integrate. One a different note, what ever happened to the permabear S2007S? I remember he was always looking to short the market. You would have thought the Nov 2021 to Oct 2022 market would have been very profitable.
Apple buys all sorts of technologies from the outside. They are really good at commercializing them. multiswipe (why the iPhone was good) was bought from a uk company. iPad came from Samsung building certain size screens (jobs 7in tablet is doa was because he had locked up all the bigger screens) USB was developed at intel (Apple just commercialized it in the first iMac) Original iPod was because another company figured out how to make smaller hard drives. And of course…. The mouse which came from xerox parc (what made apple exist in the first place) they bought Beats for the head designer.
