^ Countdown to underemployment information thread coming right up. For closure on this. There is actually two factors prevailing in the current student debt issue. 1. Wages have been stagnant across the board for all workers, including college degree holders and 2. Schools are seeing less state and federal direct funding and schools pass this on to students. Now there are other factors in the rise in tuition but this is the biggest chunk. So while tuition has been steadily growing wages have not kept pace. Is it greedy colleges fleecing students, yes, in some cases like the university of Phoenix. Is it happening at public schools, not in any of the data I’ve seen. The easiest, lowest hanging fruit for lowering debt burden of current students is, believe it or not, books. Some estimates, for some majors, are you can cut total debt burden by up to 15% with textbook reforms. What can we do about raising wages for all workers, the simplest thing in the world, raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage should be something in the area of $12 an hour. That can increase wages of the median income earners by more than 10% in the next few years. What should we do about the current student loan “crisis”, make student loans interest free. It’s just that simple. Most students think in those terms and will have a better understanding off what the amount of money they are actually borrowing is and be able to actually pay it off.
I stopped after 1 minute in because he's pushing a gold ETF. I was thinking it would be commentary, not a sales pitch.
Oh yah, gotta skip two minutes always, as he is trying to make a living in a demonetized environment.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/24/politics/house-vote-stimulus-checks-government/index.html House GOP kills bid for $2,000 stimulus checks House Democrats tried to quickly pass the bill by a unanimous consent request Thursday morning, but Republicans rejected the move, leaving the future of the $900 billion stimulus package -- and whether any changes will be added to it -- in doubt. That stimulus package was attached to a spending bill for the entire federal government, and a deadline for government funding expires Monday at midnight. "On Monday, I will bring the House back to session where we will hold a recorded vote on our stand-alone bill to increase economic impact payments to $2,000. To vote against this bill is to deny the financial hardship that families face and to deny them the relief they need," Pelosi said in a statement.
are we sure OP is not mixing the yearly omnibus bill that always has foreign aid attached to it every yr w/the stimulus bill? https://www.newsweek.com/fact-check...ovide-more-funds-foreigners-americans-1557193 https://www.statesman.com/story/new...includes-foreign-aid-arts-funding/4039075001/
https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020/12/27/trump-stimulus-shutdown-congress/ Trump signs stimulus and government spending bill into law, averting shutdown The president had demanded changes to the stimulus bill but on Sunday moved to release the stimulus funds after all
Signing the bill, releasing the funds for covid relief here in the states, I’m all for..... the pork, the money sent to other countries.... the congressional members who authored those amendments, need to be made public. All Congress did was extort the self-interest of their campaign contributors and lobbyists from the American taxpayers. Holding the needs of those impacted financially by the pandemic as hostage. There’s nothing good about this bill..... the funds for struggling Americans should never have to be bargained for...... packing it with all the other crap is a disgrace. That crap shouldn’t be in the stimulus bill, the funding bill, nowhere. We should never give money to another country, any assistance should be in the form of credit to buy American made products and produce made or grown here in the USA, period.
Again, he did it for those struggling. It doesn’t make it a good thing. Any semblance of fiscal governance had been thrown out the window long ago by both parties. And apparently you’re ok with it.
