Anything directed by Luc Besson (I don't care if it's in english-- they're french films)

    Japanese picks:

  2. Amores Perros was a ridiculously well done flick! Unfortunately I can't say I enjoyed his new effort "21-Grams" (w/ Del Toree and Penn) as much. It was still solid, but I was let down after Amores Perros.

In regards to Kurosawa -- Are you referring to "Dreams", the one where Scorcesse plays Picasso? :p

  3. Lagaan and Sholay are two good [east] indian flicks. The rest really suck. Most films that come out of "Bollywood" (Indian slang for movies from Bombay, the Hollywood of India) are love stories about the same shit, absolutely no plot, etc...

Oh man, I just remembered another great movie. Anyone seen "The Believer"? It's based on a real person who was a nazi skinhead who killed himself when a New York Times reporter revealed that he was Jewish. Very interesting story and a great performance by Ryan Gossling. I urge everyone to check it out.

Hey now! Do I sense a fellow Maggie Ghyllenhall (sp?) fan?

I love those two flicks (and Maggie) too.

I had a great time watching "Lost in Translation". Two people lost in giant city, exotic culture, language, lost in their relationships and careers, who treat positions they're in with a bit of irony, fun and distance. Subtle erotic friendship between man and woman in lights and spirit of Tokyo backgrounded by delightful soundtrack. A joy for eyes, ears and soul.
