My best guess is that an attack like that would culminate in a declaration of martial law, and Trump would remain president until things got sorted out. This is why the concept of online voting is so dangerous. It opens us up to way too much risk.
Thank you. That's a little bit better than "the founding father's didn't have electricity". (The Supreme Court is tasked to make decisions everyday concerning issues that the founding fathers didn't have for Christ-sake. That's why I'm asking Overnight.) Martial law huh? I'm gonna say that would send a lot of angry folks out onto the streets. It would get worse real fast.
And I'm saying you don't need to hack the vote to control the outcome. You cause enough vote invalidation in key areas by fudging the rolls/reg. dbs. I'd say the 3rd in line should rise to the mantle in this case as in the line of succession is the only one not guaranteed to be of the same party as the pres. Odds are Trump stays put until sorted.
It's up to the states to decide how to run their own elections and send electors to the electoral college. The meeting of the electors to cast their votes occurs as it normally would and a new president is elected and inauguration happens on Jan 20.
You’re not going to just suspend the Office until further notice, regardless if you like who’s in office, way too much defense stuff on the line. So the current Commander in Chief would remain until relieved. I’d imagine under this scenario, Congess would highly involved in sorting out the election, normal legislative stuff would be shelved.
Well this: "I'd say the 3rd in line" and this: "Odds are" are great, and I appreciate the response, but those are just speculative answers. I want to know what would happen. Lets just say in theory here.... forget the registration data-bases being hacked... lets say on voting day several glitches pop up on various systems across various States. A sector down in South Florida, a few counties in Ohio, machines in TX and Nevada. Etc, etc. You get the point. A host of little things that are spread out on vulnerable systems across the country. Enough so that because the tally was so close... the actual results of the entire election have to be rendered null and void. Now we have a mess. It may take months to figure everything out. The in-fighting in both chambers of Congress as to what to do will be off the charts. They already can't agree on anything... just imagine what it would be like. It would be nuts. Less than 2 1/2 months to fix all the problems and have a new election. It couldn't be done. The Presidential line of succession is inconsequential under these circumstances, everyone is still alive, and we all know Trump won't step down until he's been assured he's lost the EC. So here comes January 20th... ...What happens?
No. The Electoral College is where the election is anyway, not in the popular vote so the states would send electors just as they normally would. Each state would decide the electors that they would send. You would not allow a current president to stay until things got sorted out. This would be how a dictatorship could get started. Presidential power is subject to change on Jan 20 every 4 years regardless of wars, attacks etc.
Trump supporters know Trump is toast in the popular vote and EC in 2020 so now they have to come up with new ways to keep him in office.
