Elon Musk control and management of Twitter is his way of exercising a type of digital free speech that one day many lawyers may refer to it in a court of law.

A free speech that doesn't give a fuck if you're a Democrat, Republican, or Independent... it is all about his personal beliefs and how the free speech impacts his family, his businesses, or himself.

  2. I never suggested beating people into submission. Just hate speech and harmful falsehoods. Should the police force have deployed philosophers and logicians on January 6 to deal with the mob fomented by Trump's hate speech and relentless lies? Did not the mainstream media and responsible authorities make an effort to counter the lies and point out the hate? Did they not try to "dialogue?" Did it prevent the insurrection?

As impressive as Daryl Davis's accomplishments are, they are a drop in the bucket. An important step in the right direction, to be sure, but not enough. When you have unrelenting hate speech supported by unrelenting lies, it gets away from you and you get a mob that lives in an echo chamber. Good luck trying to reason with a mob.

The solution to suppressed speech is not unfettered free speech. The answer to one extreme is not the other extreme. That's what made Ayn Rand such a cartoon character. She escaped from behind the Iron Curtain and formed the belief that the solution to all of life's problems were the extreme opposite of what she had endured. Meanwhile, most of life happens somewhere in the middle.

What is your position on this point made in an article on the subject. Fred, et.al.?

"What Twitter does not have a right to is colluding with an American political
party to suppress speech that is against the interest of that political party."

    • Elon Musk referred to himself as a 'free speech absolutist' and criticized Twitter for censorship.
    • Musk has threatened to sue bloggers for critical coverage and fired employees for disagreeing with him.
    • "Seems @elonmusk is a free speech absolutist… unless it involves safety concerns IMO," a former employee tweeted.

Elon Musk on Saturday criticized Twitter for "failing to adhere to free speech principles," which he said "fundamentally undermines democracy."

The Tesla CEO, who has previously referred to himself as a "free speech absolutist," has a track record of silencing critics with threats of lawsuits and firing employees who disagree with him.

"Seems @elonmusk is a free speech absolutist… unless it involves safety concerns IMO," tweeted John Bernal, a former Tesla employee who was fired after he posted YouTube reviews of Tesla's autopilot functions on his channel, AI Addict.

Bernal's video reviews contained only end-user features and included footage of the car's autopilot disengaging, which caused Bernal to take control to avoid dangerous situations, including a possible crash.

"I was fired from Tesla in February with my YouTube being cited as the reason why. Even though my uploads are from my personal vehicle off company time or property with software I paid for," Bernal said in a video update posted earlier this month.

Bernal did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Bernal's firing is not the only example of Musk taking action against public criticism. In one instance, Fast Company reported that Musk found the identity of a would-be anonymous blogger who posted a negative stock analysis of Tesla and contacted their employer, threatening to sue, according to the blogger.

The poster deactivated his social media accounts and stopped posting about Tesla altogether.

"I do not know what Mr. Musk's precise complaints are about me. I do not believe he has any valid legal claim, and I would have no trepidation in defending myself vigorously were he to bring any claim," Montana Skeptic wrote in their farewell post. "My response to his threats was simply to protect my employer and preserve my employment."

In another incident, a journalist who had been critical of the Tesla Model X launch event was called by Musk personally and had their order for a Model X canceled.

Former employees have reported being fired for disagreeing with the CEO, for reporting racist harassment, or for simply being in his way.

Musk has denied allegations of rage-firing employees and says his criticism of Twitter is based on a fundamental belief in freedom of speech. He argued in a tweet that since Twitter is "a de facto public town square," the company's posting policy "undermines democracy."

Twitter operates with terms of service that users are required to adhere to in order to access the platform. First Amendment protections only apply in circumstances where the government, not a private business, imposes punishment for protected speech.

In another tweet, Musk asked "is a new platform needed?" which, to some, signaled a possibility that the Tesla CEO would create a new social media platform.

Musk did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment for this article.

Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey responded to Musk's tweets, saying "the choice of which algorithm to use (or not) should be open to everyone."

Fred, I looked at your article and see no instance of Musk censoring twitter users, shadowbanning twitter users.
Can you point out the cases of twitter censorship that I missed.
I see the Firing claim, cancelling order claim etc, which of course are not what I asked.
Do you have any instances of Musk censoring twitter users, shadowbanning twitter users? Besides Jones of course, lol.

    New York CNN —
Twitter on Thursday evening banned the accounts of several high-profile journalists from the nation’s top news organizations, marking a significant attempt by new owner and self-described free speech absolutist Elon Musk to wield his unilateral authority over the platform to censor the press.

The accounts belonging to CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan, The New York Times’ Ryan Mac, The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell and other journalists who have covered Musk aggressively in recent weeks were all abruptly permanently suspended. The account of progressive independent journalist Aaron Rupar was also banned.

Neither Musk nor Twitter responded to CNN’s request for comment and the platform did not formally state why the journalists were exiled from the platform.

But, in a series of sporadic tweets, Musk claimed that the journalists had violated his new “doxxing” policy by sharing his “exact real-time” location, amounting to what he described as “assassination coordinates.” None of the banned journalists appeared to have shared Musk’s precise real-time location.

Musk later appeared in a Twitter Spaces, hosted by a BuzzFeed reporter, and reiterated his claim that he had been doxxed.

Doxxing refers to the practice of sharing someone’s home address or other personal information online. The banned account had instead used publicly available flight data, which remain online and accessible, to track Musk’s jet.
