This is horrendous. Why do they even bother with only $33 billion in budget cuts. This is nothing! Absolutely nothing.

.......budget negotiators on Capitol Hill have tentatively agreed on a deal that would involve at least $33 billion in spending cuts from this year’s budget. That’s $23 billion dollars more than Democrats have previously agreed to in short-term continuing resolutions, and $28 billion less than Republicans previously passed in the House.

Yet another example why we need a WHOLE new congress and congressional term limits to keep it fresh.

Obviously no one on either side of the isle is serious about meaningful budget cuts.

  3. There was an article in the Washngton Post this morning saying that Boehner has sent his toadies to try to round up enough "moderate" democrat votes to pass this. Of course, he will ditch the defunding of public broadcasting, Planned Parenthood and cutting the EPA's wings, because democrats object.

What that means is he is defying the Tea Party freshmen. Miraculously, a CNN poll appeared today claiming the Tea Party is deeply unpopular.

This will drive a deep wedge into the republican party and will only heighten the Tea Party grassroots' sense of betrayal. I understand that Boehner is caught in a no-win situation, but it is instructive that he chose Harry Reid over his own troops. I fully expect Michelle Bachmann to go after him.

  4. Hello

    Hello

33 billion in cuts does not even cover the added interest we will be paying next year due to the 1.5 ytillion dollar deficit Obama is running this year.

On the other hand, they were talking about the new budget the Republicans will be announcing in a few days that will contain the real budget cuts. If they keep trying to get the current budget cuts for the next 6 months of government and it causes a government shutdown, they are going to be screwed in trying to counter Obama's new budget and the 10 year projections.

So, that is the logic for not making a big deal about what's left on the current budget. We'll see what happens next week after this is behind us.
