    1. You can play any time you want, for an hour or for 10 hours.

    2. You can play from home, no need to shower or even get out of your underwear if you like.

    3. Most games allow you to keep specific notes on opponents. I can't do that at a live table.

    4. I can do other stuff on the puter while playing, and some games allow me to play at two tables at once.

    5. Many electronic games have tournament style qualifying and entry into the bigger real tourneys against pros.

    6. While you can't see the players, you can watch games all you like and take notes on specific players. This allows you to find your marks so you can seek them out at later times when seats are available at their tables.

    7. Newer folks can hone thier skills at play money tables.

Overall, I've done pretty well playing limit hold'em online. I like the smaller stakes tables because the players tend not to be as skilled and the money is easier. The rake ratio is also lower at most of the small pot games.

  2. Good reasons. What I meant was the slot-machine-like poker at the casinos where you are playing on a machine as opposed to against other people.

  3. As a beginner, the video-poker was pretty good training to me I think in which cards to hold or discard.

Now when I play with human players, I might hold a King and a pair of fours, thanks to my training on Jacks-Or-Better.

Also, to explain the popularity, when you can play 4-line, so you have four separate chances to win with the same held cards, it seems fun.

  4. Imagine playing Holdem online and finding you're being beaten by a 7 year old :p

At least in online casinos, there are worse sucker games than Caribbean Stud. Of course, a lot depends on which online casino, as some of them are decent and some of them are rip-offs.
hint: check out the payouts on the Roulette table. If the payout on winning a half-bet like 1-18 or Even or Red is 1:1, it's a rip-off, and be wary of playing any other games on that casino too.

  5. The casinos are well aware of the concerns about collusion, and one like Paradise Poker you can see what safeguards they have taken against any suspicions about this sort of activity.

At Paradise Poker, you can choose your table on a variety of factors: you can click on the table list to arrange them by number of players, number of hands per hour, average pot size, players after the flop. etc.

I have heard that there are video poker machines that are set to give a slight advantage to players who are trained to make the proper choices. There are folks who play these things for income, although I bet it's monotonous as hell.

I guess there needs to be a merry go round in every amusement park. Hold 'em is one of the big boy rides.

  7. I trashed this show after seeing the first episode. Have to say that last night's was a good bit better. What are the odds on this lasting?

  8. I kinda liked it...its definately more about being a gambler than poker itself. But TNT has a hoast of shows that wouldnt last a week on the networks but last there. Hope it stays around.
