Commitment of Traders updated?

Discussion in 'Commodity Futures' started by MoneyMatthew, Apr 12, 2017.

  1. I'm new to following the Commitment of Traders report. I thought it would be updated by now? For the CBOT and other exchanges it is still showing April 4th as the last update.

Using the CBOT as an example how often is the report updated? The updates do not seem to match the dates on their release schedule. Are they running late? Am I looking in the wrong place? What is up?

    Thanks to all who reply.

The report is released on Friday, to show what everything was on that previous Tuesday.

  4. Thanks, so the report was released last Friday on the 7th but it is showing the Date (April 4th) which is a Tuesday. So this Friday the 14th there will be another release but it will be dated April 11th on the report, correct? Thanks.

  6. Thanks for answering my questions. I got a little too excited for a second since many of the sites that overlay COT data onto charts do it by backfilling the data at times when I could not yet act on it since the report is released on Fridays. I did not know that and I got fooled temporarily, I knew it was too good to be true! I'll still study the reports.

    Thanks again.

Also be aware that the CFTC doesn't compile everything. If you want data on Brent you have to go to ICE's site. It's dumb and they need to pull all data from all major exchanges.

  8. Thanks for telling me that as well. I wish the CFTC's website was more intuitive, I know it is easy to make fun of Government websites but come on! 1996 just called and it wants its "webmaster" back lol

Let me help you. Make it a habit to use Quandl to get your data. Here is the COT data for Crude:
