    1. Line tools on tick charts will likely arrive in eSignal 8.0 (~Q3/Q4).

    2. This is something we want to do soon, and may correspond with the work on line tools for tick charts.

    3. I'm unfamiliar the Optimizer in TradeStation. Could you clarify what this does? Does it relate to Backtesting?

    4. We are always looking for a source for historical tick data. There are a limited number of companies offering that level of data, and nearly all of them are direct competitors, which would make them unlikely to sell us data at a reasonable price point.

    5. I will pass this suggestion along to our Development Team (ideas@esignal.com).

    6. Another great suggestion to forward. Thanks!

  2. How does Radar screen compare to QChart Hot Lists? Does Radar screen have some way to sort via trade rate as does hot lists? thanks

    shyhh,

Yes, we are going to release what you call a retail API for eSignal in the 7.4 release in July. It is currently in beta with a limited number of testers.

ActiveX is a development tool adopted by eSignal to give third party users, including brokers, software developers and individual users, access to quotes, tick and history data, trading information and more. The ActiveX tools provides third party with the ability to access eSignal data through the eSignal application and Data Manager. All permissioning is handled through eSignal.

ActiveX permits third party to develop an application in any language. A sample program is provided that makes it easy to get started. Only a few lines of code are required for developing applications that receive quote data and only slightly more development is required for accessing tick and history data. In addition to developing third party applications that use quote and history data, ActiveX can also be used to send data to a trading ticket for order execution and for receive trading information back into eSignal.

Here is a link to the full documentation:

There will be a number of new integrated brokers released using this new technology as part of 7.4.

  4. Chuck,

Will you support Patsystems Jtrader API for automated trading?
(in this way you will provide automated trading to lots of brokers)

    Thanks!

    GeorgeSoros,

We are not working with Patsystems, although I have talked to them a few times. You might let your broker know you are interested in that connection.

There are a number of new features coming in 7.4 to enhance the integrated trading. We have a new customized order entry feature where the user can design his own layouts and buttons along with hot keys.

We also work with multiple direct access brokers, a few new ones will be released with 7.4. The current detailed list is here:

  6. Chuck, bad ticks shouldn't be a problem with this type of set up. You would just have the software programmed to only save data to the local drive after it was five days old. This would give you 5 days to fix any incorrect data. Anything less that five days could be delivered from your servers. 5 days is just an example, it could be any period.

Then if any data was found to be corrupt after that time, you would just issue the occassional email giving customers the detail of the data fault and they could modify it on their machine manually.

This would give everyone the best of both worlds.

You could even have the historical data delivered from different servers so it wouldn't put a drain on quote speed for the real time stuff.

    Runningbear,

Yea, we doing some work on this. We are reworking our End of Day service called eSignal Wizard. We will be adding international data to it this summer. Then adding the ability to support other third party software besides Advanced GET. Then adding the ability to use eSignal in a "offline" mode. We never store our history data on a quote machine so we can keep quotes always fast.

So you'll see a phased release of this rolling out.

An early beta for eSignal 7.4 is ready for testing. We posted an installer today on the File Share:

    http://share.esignal.com/groupcontents.jsp?folder=&groupid=132

    This beta contains:

Keyboard Customization (on the Tools menu) - Let's you create your own keyboard templates for many of the commands/menu/toolbar things in eSignal.

Broker Template Editor (on the Tools menu) - Lets you create your own order entry ticket(s). Then when you bring up a chart, quote window, quote board, etc... Goto View->Order Entry to bring up your order ticket.

Multiple Window Symbol & Interval Linking on the titlebar - great with the Pop-Outs in 7.3!

Playback - On the tools menu. Let's you download up to 10 days of tick data and play it back. To play it back, put your advanced chart on the symbol: $PLAYBACK There's a document here that Alexis created as a guide for this playback feature.

Spreads - If you do a spread in an advanced chart (eg: MSFT + IBM) you can display it as a bar, line, or candle.

Paper Trade plugin has been updated to support the new order entry features.

Pages - Using the Advanced GET philosophy of Pages instead of Layouts, eSignal has added the ability to use Pages and/or Layouts from the Layout menu. You can also go to the File menu and then Preferences to turn off Layouts and run completely in Pages mode.

If you're interested in participating in our 7.4 beta, please install the beta and post any questions or comments in the 7 Series Beta Forum: http://forum.esignal.com/

  9. Chuck, this is cool! I was not expecting a beta 1 so quickly!

Will you release ActiveX support in beta 2 ? What about line tools on tick & second chart ? Can you raise the priority so that it is in 7.4? (I think I am not the only to ask for this feature since 7.1 release last summer)

    Thanks GeorgeSoros!

Yes, they are trying to get the line tools on tick charts into 7.4. At the moment it is on the list.

The multiple linked windows is nice - like the old Ravenquote.

We are holding to an early July release as we need to get those new exchanges released for a special project we are doing.
