Thank you. That was a surprisingly kind and civil a response. I appreciate it.

Why would someone bring up your 10 year old family dirty laundry? Hopefully your parents sent you one of those regifted Xmas fruitcakes for the next couple of years.

This is the Politics section. People try to do dirty things all the time. I don't mind, honestly. Keeps me honest.

  4. I found your old post searching for something else.

    .

I have talked to quite a few Conservatives who sound like you and have taken steps to be prepared. Several fundamental weaknesses to their plans come to mind:

    1. Believing they and their family will be safe in a remote location.

Unless you have a compound with thirty to one hundred people, you will be vulnerable to roving hoards looking for resources. While you should be friendly with your neighbors, any large group of people can overwhelm a family and a neighbor or two defending their home. You might want to have plat maps of properties surrounding your remote location in a 30 to 60 mile radius. Learn as much as you can about you neighbors.

    2. Believing They will be able to get to their remote location during a time of crisis.

You live and work probably about 9 hours away from your safe place. If you use the interstate system, you will either have to go through Atlanta or deal with I-95 traffic. Further, you will have to refuel enroute. Who is to say the grid will be up, and along with it, gas pumps, should there be a real crisis?

    3. Waiting until it is obvious before leaving for remote location.

It is expensive to be a victim to false alarms. This is why we wait until we are sure there is a confirmed need before taking action. Although trader’s watching the market tend to have situational awareness, identifying moves that don’t seem to make sense given their current understanding of context, certain events should be monitored or even triggers for taking immediate and decisive action. Top of mind, any of the following are potentially actionable, especially when combined with another event: Scheduled war games and loss of communication, Chinese invade Taiwan, Russia invades Ukraine, North Korea invades South Korea, a capital ship is sunk, diplomatic relations between major powers are broken off, trial balloons concerning reinstating the draft in the US or elsewhere are floated, to name a new.

    4. Not prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.

Quite possibly, a real crisis will not give you time to pack up stuff. By the way, keeping a container of gasoline in your vehicle is extraordinarily dangerous.

    5. Not planning contigencies for loss of communication and family member separations.

This is the toughest to plan, but nothing is worse than time being lost going to and from frequently visted locations while searching for each other.

    6. Not learning secondary and tertiary skills in depth.

In a real crisis, resources will be scarce, including professional services. So while general knowledge of a broad range of subjects is important, having solid specific knowledge can open up doors and more.

    7. Not having insufficient supplies or capital equipment.

Although a crisis can last a generation or even a lifetime, if you have capital equipment and two to three years of supplies, you should have enough time to be able to adjust to a new reality.

I disagree. You need only a handful with the right equipment...

  6. Determining the location of, and taking out a sniper with a small group is not easy. How about being in a crossfire situation against two snipers? Probably four of the target group would be dead before someone yells “Oh shit!”.

Yes, I do. But if you're asking me if he was bad compared to Biden or Trump, no. But that's how subjectivity works.
