Coming to terms with my feelings. Long, sorry.

He was ready to leave last year; it never happened.

I don't care how supposedly good the living is in Singapore, or Costa Rica, the central problem with those places is that they are Singapore and Costa Rica.

I know you're not talking to me, but I can assure you, I will be leaving sans some catastrophic event. I've had two international assignments prior, and I chose to return. Not smart thinking that time. This time, when I go international, I won't come back (with the exception to visit my cabin in the woods on vacation).

Been there done that. Have 2 houses full of ceramics, some pre-columbian, some modern reproduction. Spent time on the Oyapock and Saint Laurent du Maroni rivers as well. Carried out plane loads of stuff. Fiddled around with some... hardware between Fr. Guiana and Surinam. You simply have no idea.

I already made my nut and you've voted yours away.

It is not necessary to leave the country, I can watch it all unravel from up close. If you are a productive person (and that is subject to a lot of speculation in your case) you are going to pay for others to sit around in front of their 55" plasma with their Og Kush and Obamaphone.

    I'm not.

I'll admit though that I haven't got it all 100% figured out. I own homes and I could still have a problem if California repeals Prop-13 but that is just about my only vulnerability and I think I can figure that out before they manage to raise property taxes. In a couple of more years I can do the one-time gift and dodge the whole thing if Prop-13 can survive that long.

It makes sense for me to stay and join in the looting. There is free stuff to be had... until the entire system collapses. Nice work. I accept that the country has radically changed and I'm on-board for the ride. The math doesn't seem sustainable but this election has helped me to achieve a perfect state of I-don't-give-a-fuck.

I can see that you aren't even going to make my ignore list. You occupy that region between stupid and harmless where certain folks just languish. You've got be be a lot more snarky than you have so far. :)

Tsing, I'm not at all surprised. You're a true believer.

If he is talking about me (I'm not sure because I've got him on ignore and just see quoted fragments) he is right. I was setting up to move to Chiang Mai but reconnected with a female companion and decided to stay and get married. That decision was made back in July so it isn't related to the election, it was just one of those things that comes up sometimes. The idea of getting as much stuff from the government as possible is recent.

I learned a lot during the preparation to leave and if things go south I suppose I could still head that direction. My girl is very smart however and I would have a tough time finding one like her in the LOS. We are already working on 3 grant applications and one of them seems like a slam dunk. We'll also work the "assistance" side of things because she has an adopted son with a developmental disability (an 8-year old boy from India, all heart and eyes). We're going to become professional "takers" and it looks as though we will live in Oregon, the only place more liberal than where I already live. :)

I hope that doesn't put me in dutch with my conservative friends but everyone here seems to recognize that the war is over and it is time to work the system.

Another reading comprehension challenged individual. I never said or even hinted that he is better than you.

I only asked how you supposedly know you're better than him.

Jeezus H Fucking Christ, do they no longer teach reading in our fucked up public schools?

It has taken be a long time to see the truth. Now that I do, why should I fall back to rose colored glasses I used to wear - the ones you and your cult still wear?

True believers almost by definition think they have the clearest view of the truth.

  10. Tsing, I agree 100%. The class warfare played by the democrats has created the us vs. them environment which we now live.

I have happily been answering telemarketing calls for the past few days and politely told each one that due to the election results this home no longer supports any charities, especially those in blue states.

I directed them to call obama voters and ask them to pick up the slack for those of us that no longer wish to carry the load for those that pay no taxes.
