Most likely you will be getting paid $70,000 starting if your lucky with a nice $300,000 of collage dept that you will be paying off until your are 40. Meanwhile the entrepreneur will be a millionaire by the time he is 40 with his house paid off by the time hes 35.
Research over the last couple of years suggests the UK graduate premium in salary is still strong enough to justify a 3-year degree course after leaving school. However, rising course fees are eroding this so its worth less than it used to be. Graduates from the top universities can expect the best premium in salaries, male graduates more so than female. One annoying factor is that this sort of research always compares degree graduates typically at age 21, with school-leavers at age 18. Studies don't seem to look at graduates v's school-leavers at 16: if they did, the graduate premiums would probably be far more significant. I can't find research into how likely graduates are to be unemployed or how secure graduate jobs tend to be. Obviously there's also no research I can find as to how "easy" or "pleasant" graduates' jobs are. From my own experience, I was interested in a career which was a mixed environment - I did not want to find myself working in an exclusively or almost exclusively male career. Maybe that was just me. But though degree courses tend to offer this possibility, again, I can't find research that illustrates this either.
Bekim, Only an irresponsible idot gets a $300K loan for a 4 year college degree. If a person did not get a full or half paid scholarship from a university, then that person needs to pick a cheap college to attend. Or, go to 2 year community college, then transfer to university for 2 years. There is no need for a person to have $300K in student loan unless a doctor. Again, just because you start a business does not guarantee you will be a millionaire. A person better have a good idea and extreme passion for a good business these days.
The only way to pose the “college is a waste” argument is to compare an Uber successful dropout to a college educated failure. I wonder if the people who make this argument should have studied more in college themselves.
What's your experience as an entrepreneur? You could just as easily advise a random person to try to play professional baseball instead of going to college because they'll be a millionaire by the time they're 40. Being an entrepreneur requires a certain skill set that very few people have, it's hard as shit, a huge number of entrepreneurs fail, and having a degree and more importantly the resulting network from a decent school makes it immeasurably easier and makes you far more likely to succeed. If you haven't had that experience, and none of the entrepreneurs around you have had that experience, and you're all just high school graduates, then you can count yourself exceedingly fortunate. You'll probably want to give that unicorn you live with an extra hug today, because that's not the real world the rest of us entrepreneurs, even successful ones, live in!

Granted that not everyone can be a business owner and some have to be an employee, it is better to seek other opportunities and multiple income streams. I grew up thinking that studying hard and getting a good job is the goal. Atleast, that is why my grandfather and mother told me. Looking back, I now see it was bad advice! I now tell younger members of my family to not be afraid to try starting a business but, in a field they are interested in, that way they do not get bored and give up easily. If you have interest in something, it is easier to become good at it and succeed!

I do have a college degree in Accounting and have a year of units in my masters. Looking back, I see I would have been better off trying to start a business, much, much earlier.
