  1. I think we are moving away from the subject. University degrees are valuable to be a trader?

That's pretty self-evident if you look at what percentage of those who make their living in the finance industry who don't have a college degree, especially those who have started in the last decade. Hint, it's a vanishingly small number.

Fact check: the most an under grad college student can borrow is 27,500.-- TOTAL, for all 4 yrs .
A parent can take a parent plus loan for the balance if they choose. That is the parents debt.
Get a little deeper than the run of the mill media.

Do you or anyone else posting here really want to compare the current income, lifestyle, real and investable assets and opportunities created for future generations between those who went to college (even taking on debt) and those who don't ???

If you do, do a little search, Hint: it is very one sided.
And ...this includes those coming from a lower social/economic background.

  6. a lot of 'trading' jobs is computer programming and trading automation ,and you need school to learn to program or 4 years of computer science. and no --not everyone can pass the exams in computer science.

yeah it's a waste of money for some people.

Can you quote a percentage how many college educated actually using his/her degree? I bet at least 1/3rd doesn't. So going to college is a casino for a huge %. And not a cheap one. I am not saying don't go if you wanna be a doctor or lawyer, but if you just want to spend time on women's studies....You can go to the library, aka internet.

Personally I don't care if one wants to party for 4 years to end up in 50+K in debt. But maybe society should care...

  9. 4 years isn't enough time to learn everything in engineering or medicine or even law.
and no it's not a waste of money. it's essential to the economy that there are competent 'workers' or talent.

it took the north Koreans 10 years of 'research' to develop their missle technologies etc.

graduates earn $100,000/year upon graduation when hired by headhunters.

    Storytime:

At a family dinner in a restaurant my brother in law met with a college friend who was the waitress. So she ended up working as a waitress with a 4 years college degree. But I am sure she was able to serve us better because you know, the degree thingy...

Now you could argue that high school teaches us nothing and you might be right when we talk about the USA, thus we need college for leading a normal life. But generally speaking no, for a plumber, a cashier a truck driver a college degree isn't necessary.
