There is certainly a slippery slope. But balance must be maintained if we are to apply standards equally and keep people safe. As a member of the armed forces, this man had no privacy and there was something that tipped of an investigation that led to a determination of him being a thread. I, for one, am glad they got to him before anything happened. Now, this is all based on the information available. If it comes out later that this isn't how it went down, and his rights were violated or that he was not guilty of what they claim, then that is a different story.
His guns, proudly displayed as trophies by LE. Oooh, they're sooo scary. Actually this strikes me as average to slightly below average for a gun collector.
You mean, if I were someone like Tucker Carlson who had an antifa mob attack his wife alone in their house? While the cops stood by and did nothing. Of course I don't want my name on a list. But the point is, I wouldn't know if he just kept it private. Which this guy did. When I look at this case, I see two civil rights violations. One, he was targeted because of protected First Amendment activity, ie accessing the internet. Two, his Second Amendment rights have been violated. What makes the police so sure his guns are illegal? And why are they illegal? Which precise law did he violate? The Dc gun laws have been held unconstitutional repeatedly.
There is no 1st amendment right to access extremist websites on a government computer or make threats against other people. You might want to take a con law class or crack a book...
You think the below is protected speech??? "I am dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth," reads a draft email found on his computer. "I think a plague would be most successful but how do I acquire the needed/ Spanish flu, botulism, anthrax not sure yet but will find something." In another letter to himself found on his computer, court papers say, he says, "I am a long time White Nationalist, having been a skinhead 30 plus years ago before my time in the military." The Coast Guard flagged him because of internet searches of extremist web sites at work, a federal law enforcement officer told NBC News.
Am I supposed to ignore all the lies the media told over the last 10 years and actually believe this?
