https://www.thewrap.com/cnn-looks-to-slash-budgets-star-salaries-as-mark-thompson-digs-in/ Top CNN earners include prime-time anchor Anderson Cooper, who makes an estimated $20 million a year; Wolf Blitzer, who earns about $15 million; Jake Tapper, who pulls in more than $8.5 million; and Chris Wallace, who makes about $8 million, two insiders said. Other co-anchors, including John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner, make in the $1 million to $2 million range, a third executive with knowledge of salaries told TheWrap. Thompson has indicated in a staff memohe is looking to trim production costs “that now look difficult to support,” which media experts and former staffers say is likely to mean cuts to at least some of those big salaries. But contracts for some of the biggest stars, including Cooper and Tapper, are not due to expire until after the presidential election — at the end of 2025 or 2026, according to two people familiar with the situation. “The first thing they need to do is dramatically reduce costs,” Rich Greenfield, a partner and media and tech analyst at LightShed Partners, told The Wrap. “If you work at CNN your compensation is going to go down dramatically over the next…five years, there’s just no other way around it.”

So sad what happened to CNN. It was once great telejournalism but that was under Ted Turner. When he sold out to Time-Warner it slowly got eroded by it's move to infotainment. The same thing happened to TBS but it survives on its sports contracts (though mainly via TNT). I remember watch Indira Gandhi's assassination aftermath on CNN live.
Another roadkill. Sixteen years on the air and I have never seen this woman smile. To see that would be like spotting a Sasquatch. She might want to seek some help for depression- although leaving CNN might be just the therapy she needs. If so, then be well. Maybe get away from the East Coast and take a road trip through South Dakota or something, just to clean out your bilge a little. Quality of CNN.com improves by 100% CNN shuts down opinion section https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/cnn-shuts-down-opinion-section/ar-BB1qZhEL CNN is permanently shutting down its entire opinion section amid a series of ongoing changes at the cable news network. Certain writers were formally notified of the change over email Wednesday afternoon, according to a source directly familiar with the move. “Just a quick note to let you know that unfortunately CNN has decided to shut down the opinion section,” an opinion editor sent in an email. “I hope our paths cross elsewhere!” The opinion editor did not elaborate further in their correspondence. Reached for comment, a senior executive at CNN told The Hill: “We did make the decision at the beginning of the month to sunset the opinion vertical on CNN.com; as a result, we will no longer have a standalone Opinion section.” The senior executive pointed to a post on a Substack called The Media Mix by Claire Atkinson, which detailed a closure of the section coming in August. The opinion section served as a platform for diverse voices and has recently featured a variety of pieces about the 2024 presidential election, as well as buzzy topics like the Olympics and Generation Z social media influencer trends. Its current homepage features a column titled “Project 2025 is coming for our kids, too” by Veronica Goodman, a director at a progressive think tank, about Republicans’ policy priorities ahead of a possible second Donald Trump presidency. CNN CEO Mark Thompson has previously previewed ways to curb spending within the network as it looks to regain its standing in the television and digital landscape after a tumultuous year of mass layoffs and lower ratings following Jeff Zucker’s exit.
