Though Cramer pumped eBay up a bit I think he is wrong. eBay has 2 big problems which are going to hurt revenue. Too much fake, foreign bootleg and illegal stuff for sale. I am surprised they allow it but a listing fee is better than nothing and down the slippery slope they slide. Sellers are charging super high shipping rates and lower auction price to keep their eBay fees down, taking money out of the bays pockets. As a seller thats smart, if I can sell my shirt for $10 shipping and final bid of $2, more money in my pocket! EBay used to be a place for great deals, not any more.
You are probably right, but Cramer was not saying to invest in ebay - he was saying to buy it before they spoke in Las Vegas, because he thinks they will have positive things to say. He was advocating a quick trade. Just FYI - I don't agree or disagree, I just happened to catch what he was saying last night.
Great post. Those two reasons are EXACTLY on target. As expected, people have figured out how to screw ebay, and buyers in turn. It is true you cannot find deals anymore, any deal you think you may find will end up being a fake product or have a load of shipping fees on there. Just looking today for some Dell monitors you see the "Buy it Now" prices for a Dell 17 inch flat panel at about $200, with shipping ranging from $30 to almost $100. A quick check on UPS.com will show you that a ground rate for that size package will be anywhere from $15 to $30 depending on your location. Each and every time I have some sort of issue on ebay nothing has been resolved. I bought a product on there about 2 years ago for about $300, never received anything, never heard from the seller again. Ebay, and their partner in crime, paypal, told me there is nothing I can do without a court order. They were able to recover 82 cents from the persons pay pal account and refund it to me. Thanks a lot ebay. I will never purchase anything on ebay anymore for the sole reason that they have no control what so ever over what sales transactions go on. I will certainly be staying away from ebays website and stock for some time. Until they can get a control on the inflow of cheap quality fakes (has the feel of the silk market in Beijing), ebay is no place to purchase products. As abducens stated, these two reasons will certainly affect ebays revenue, and I will certainly not be throwing money to invest in companies that offer such a poor service.
Cramer never pocketed 700 million doing anything. He charged a $2 million management fee per year he was running KB. One year he did not even charge the fee because he was not happy with his performance. He may have made $700 million for his investors over the years, (if i recall his best year was a gain of $150 million) but lets not confuse money he made with money he (read: his wife) made for other people. His first book was good, this latest one is like reading a personal finance 101 text book. I will sell it cheap, PM me if interested............
Cramer is a genius when it comes to marketing and salemanship (of himself). But, (personally) I'm waiting for the day he has either a stroke or a heart attack. His behaviour will one day take a toll on him, hopefully sooner rather than later. Booooo-yaaaa ozzy
Cramer is at it again. He just pumped EBay again on his show and the stock popped up 35 cents in the after hour. I wonder if some joker is buying Ebay at the close and then calling Cramer on his Mad Money show and asking him what he thought of EBAY. Naturally, Cramer is going to say, "BUY, BUY, BUY !". Good trick for a quick profit.
yeah kind of like manipulation for the little guy. Taking a chapter out of Cramer's "own book" Senor Zen
