I just received my books for the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) Exam. Has anyone taken the tests or know much about the program. I have a couple friends that have taken level 1 but I was curious of any outside opinions or experiences. Thanks.

What is the CMT exam, and what happens if you pass it?

It's a 3 year self study course. There are 3 tests (level 1, 2 and 3). You must past the level 1 exam before you can take level 2. Each test is given once a year (late April). You don't need a sponsor to sign up for this exam. The CMT designation is the pinnacle achievement in the Technical Analysis community. This is a great designation to have if you're applying for a job in the finance/trading sector and very useful for your own trading, which is why I'm studying. Go to http://www.mta.org/ to research more. The course costs about $550 to register and take the 1st exam. Books run about $150 total or cheaper on Amazon.
