Your rant, for lack of a better word, reminded me of a question a black historian asked once.

Why is it that the European settlers of N. America went to all the trouble, risk and expense of traveling to Africa to capture and buy slaves. Instead of just conquering and enslaving the native American Indians - who were already here?
