The funny part is that nearly the entire comments thread for the Tweet is about Conservative Party Leader Eric O'Toole facing a leadership no confidence vote and probably loosing his job for this white supremacist trucker fiasco.

  4. Yeah, I heard him on the radio the other day, trying to have it both ways. But it's hard to sit on a barbed wire fence.

I don't follow the news about Liberals or the Conservatives that much but I do know there's been a lot of talk about Eric O'Toole prior to the mandates. It was all about "facing a leadership no confidence vote".
    • Yet, to be fair...other parties in Canada have a leadership problem too.
Regardless, the United States will never remove their border entry vaccine requirements nor do the same for Airlines travel restrictions...

It's the reason why many of the +90% Canadian truckers strongly believe the Freedom Convoy is misguided or being used as a puppet for others along with the fact there was not an organized Freedom Convoy from the U.S. side of the border to occur at the same time...

Defeating the objective on the Canadian side before the protest/convoy got started.

Other than that, mainly peaceful...a lot of people outside getting fresh air and Canada is OK with getting by with about +80% of the truckers doing the work elsewhere in the country. Yet, there's a trucking company near the city in my area...

They now have "Hiring Signs" that I didn't see three weeks ago. Thus, I don't want to see any of the truckers lose their jobs over this misguided protest that needed the other side of the border to do the same at the same time for a stronger statement.

Until then, I'm sure people of Ottawa are wearing their earplugs at night to get a good night of sleep. I will be curious to see if the protesters and truckers will remain when the infamous winter storms arrive now that we're in February prior to the temperatures begin warming up going into March.

It's a good time for the protesters to learn how to build Igloos.

  7. If this is indeed what is happening, those cops should be reprimanded and docked pay.

During the 2020 riots here in Quebec and riots many many years ago (early 2001)...
    • The police did the same during the daytime to reduce the risk of a bigger riot. Someone actually had statistics that when police are feeding people, helping people just before and during riots...
It reduces property damage and reduces other associated costs. Simply, more people among the rioters are more likely to get involved in preventing bad characters from causing much more damage.

  9. Maybe, but I'd rather they just get cold and hungry, and then leave. And that if they decide to get unruly, that holy hell be rained upon them. And their trucks can get confiscated to pay for whatever damage they inflict.

    But that's just me.

It's an error to think of this action as "the truckers". There is a sharp division between the owner-operators, and the company drivers. Company drivers are not free to take the company tractor off route, to take the customer's product off route, nor drop it and leave it unattended, nor delay its delivery, and they're not allowed to use the company fuel card for non-load specific shenanigans (without losing their jobs).

This protest is 99% the work of owner-operators, a small subset of all truckers. If you don't believe that then consider why 99% of the trucks actually doing the traffic blocking are bobtailing--they're not under a load and they're paying for fuel out of their own pocket.
