CME Group Announces Launch of Bitcoin Futures

Discussion in 'Crypto Assets' started by SumZero, Oct 31, 2017.

  1. prestige of bitcoin is lied in its mystery. even the value of the dollar is also based on people's perception, though rules that govern the dollar are transparent. I think that creates trust that people could rely on, and use it.
Not until the FED endorses it, then it'd be a big deal! CME is another casino on Wall Street. they'd trade anything that moves :)

  2. Never leave crypto there. Always keep in off-line wallet and own your private keys

Yeah but if you want to trade it, the crypo (and your private keys) has to be at the broker.

  4. If you want cash then this is true, but you can still send it to your broker when you want to trade and send it back to your wallet for storage. You can use Changely and Ether-delta to exchange into other coins.

  6. I had not thought of that. If CME has this future closed from Friday Evening to Sunday Evening then there will be a mass closing of positions that will take open interest to near zero on Friday Evening. Bitcoin can move $800 in a weekend and that would not even be considered an unusual event.

Somewhat of a basic question. Is there a robust vehicle for shorting BTC so the exchange products have something to hedge against? Is shorting cumbersome and can the short be carried in a clearing account at OCC or CME clearing?
