  2. I'm sure you are correct from the vantagepoint that you have.

He didn't look like all traders to me. I made my request, simply because I read many posts here and concluded that I wanted to see what he was looking at. I do not even want to view his annotations, if any.

Hmmm im not quite sure want you want.

I view 6 trading screen during the day, basically all on the one market ES.

I have posted some shots of my screens before the day started to show people what i was looking at. The 15min chart be specifically shown where i was looking ot get short (swing position).

If you can make it clearer what you want i will post any intra-day charts i am looking at.

  4. Sorry I was not clear.

In my terms, my screens would be the stuff in front of me that I look at. I would be looking at them as they are organized and showing all the pieces of things that are arranged to be viewed in various places on various screens.

My screens (5) are my trading world in terms of my senses. I do have a counter (flat surface) that holds my mice and sheets of standard paper. The counter is in a 90 degree arc and three keyboards are mounted below it on slides. When out, their corners meet and just the keyboard and the pencil trays in front of them show.

The screens are 68cm from my eyes and my glasses (first build long before computer glasses were common) are tuned to the appropriate focal length. My chair pivots me and I do not adjust my head vertically.

I want to paste on my screens a print of each your screens and sit for a moment in order to find out how you "are" in the various states your posts depict.

Thanks for the chart which I see has a black background. I like the space to the right of the forming bar and if you keep your scale constant (I do) I feel that it is the best possible.

if you could do snapshots of your screens and blank out account #'s and personal stuff, i would appreciate it.

    TIA.

Could i just do this over PM as im not sure everyone is interested in my screens.

Just a little to add: i am a very artistic person - a painter so i generally find that chart has to look appealing to me otherwise i find difficulty using it.

My screens as well actually pain me right now because i have one monster screen and 4 other smaller screens. I like symmetry and like everything to be perfectly arranged (actually distresses me to see the non-symmetry of my set-up, yes i am a bit strange :D).

I have 3 mice - all Logitech Air Mice which i paid £90 for each one. WHY? Because they feel great and are so responsive when trading, makes it much more comfortable.

I sit at level head to all my screens - i also have a TV to my right side just to give me some noise during the day. Again as i have played my computer games as a youngster i don't find it any difficulty processing all the information at once (i reckon i focus on 8 screen without any difficulty of this, just because of the games i have played).

My desk has to be clean and not cluttered otherwise that puts me off. All my screens are black and my price bars have custom indicators on them which display different colours so i know what is going on with price. Again being very visual i designed the indicators and they are a must because they help me give a natural flow and order to price.

And you may be right of any assessment of me as i go to great lengths even to choose the correct fonts and display setting which look the best to me (like i said before i am strange and does give me some personal pain when things don't look just quite right, this can be simple as the font on the quotes).

I do all my Elite trader typing on a separate laptop - which i keep in front of all my screens.

I can PM you sample shot of all my screens i am viewing if you would like.

Feel free to ask anything you like, i am a very open person and don't mind sharing the little idiosycrancies of the my trading process.

  6. Thanks for your reply; I appreciate it.

The charts you posted over the pages (I use 5 per page) appear to be daily (22), 60 min (1), 15 min (2, 23) and most often 1min (7,8 and 14). the ( ) are the page where they appear.

There is a great range of traders on ET and a lot do focus on ES as well. ES is the most liquid market for futures indexes and it offers a great deal of money each day.

I gree with you that it is important to earn the right to trade contracts by starting with one and having predetermined profit levels that allow contracts to be added.

There are many ways to make money trading, that is for sure.

It is always a good idea for anyone learning to look at people's efforts who know how to take what is offered. It is always there throughout the day. Taking what is offered when it is offered is the objective.

  7. Thanks for the PM offer.

Your kindly reply was extremely informative so I do not need a pm.

I agree with you deeply that a "vocabulary" is needed for visual display. Symbols, color coded, and color coding are very powerful.

I like the "zoom" characteristic of your approach as well.

I focus only on ES right now because i want to become profitable with ES before trying move onto any other markets at all. I do not like having to many small charts on screen anymore so i have:

4 smaller screen with : 60min chart, 15min chart(also has 240, daily tabs but 15min is what is on display), Matrix (order screen), Market profile and quotes on last screen.

On my big screen i have ES 1min chart and that all. This is my main screen.

Laptop i have my other account open and elite trader as well as day to day activities.
A little about me for any readers:

Becoming a trader is hard work for sure, i am a graduate from a top school but decided to do my own trading and other businesses instead of working in the City. At the moment not great idea because my friends who have been working a couple of years are raking in £40-50 thousand a year and i am still unprofitable in my futures trading.

However, i always like to swim against the current and have great self belief in my own ability. I literally can spend all day thinking about trading now, that how obsessive i have become. My girlfriend, and friends have had enough of me bringing trading into every conversation. I read all the books under the sun about trading when i started and now have moved onto psyche books and philosophy books.

I am also a very sports orientated guy - but trading has taken over my usual regimes - only last few months i have got back to playing my sports again.

I have been pouring my blood, swear and tears into this game. I don't mind if i fail as long as i know i tried my hardest to succeed. I always have my degree to fall back on so getting a job is not an issue. I spend 12 hours a day trading or thinking of automating strategies. This thing can really take over your life if you let it.

That's why i have put some controls over how i schedule my time. To any newcomer wanting to do this - all i have to say is trading is probably the easiest yet hardest thing you can ever do.

My hats off to anyone who managed to be profitable straight away, i know the pain people in this business can go through. Anybody thinking they can walk in gamble and make a quick buck is in for a rude awakening.

Good trading to all - sorry for getting so personal here but a little background about me might nice to help with the flow of the journal.

Jack - i will PM you a link to my screens

  10. <i>"My screens (5) are my trading world in terms of my senses..."</i>

The better your skills become, the fewer screens you'll need.

I trade from two charts per symbol, monitor a bigger one and focus on a smaller one. Could get by with only one chart, but the dual view certainly helps.

It's possible that some of your angst to exit trades earlier than you desire comes from information overload. Too many charts, too many lines, too many points of reference = excess congestion.

If it takes more than ten seconds (at most) to make any intraday trade / management decision based on what you look at, the view is too cluttered. Most decisions can be made in five seconds or less.
