  1. What does that have to do with anything? Suppose I just started caring about it when I realized obama had no intention of following the most basic measures to protect us? So what? We government and interational institutions to deal with problems on different continents.

How does any of that change what are proper measures to follow here now? Or is Obama going to punish us for not caring enough about his beloved africa? Are you suggesting that's what this is about?

  2. Nobody is better than Obama at slamming the barn door after the horses have run out.

Anyway, this sad development emphasizes that we don't know how to dela with ebola and should be directing our efforts at keeping it out.

this is what is infuriating... and what leads us to believe his is inviting this epidemic into our country.
what has this got to do with eliminating the virus from coming into the country in the first place.

What has this got to do with entero virus and tb and other diseases coming over the border?

he my be hearing it but he is ignoring basic safety procedures.
    without any explanation.

I am almost ready to start praying for political victories for the sake of our children.

    from wiki:

it is often stated that about 36,000 die from the seasonal flu in the U.S. each year,[169] and this is frequently understood as an indication that the H1N1 strain was not as severe as seasonal influenza. The 36,000 estimate was presented in a 2003 study by CDC scientists published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

nah . . . Bush is not being blamed.:).

Thousands of people died there and who among you cared? But one person dies here and suddenly it's all tragic.

BETHESDA, Md. -- As the federal government frantically works to combat the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, and as it responds to a second diagnosis of the disease at home, one of the country's top health officials says a vaccine likely would have already been discovered were it not for budget cuts.

Dr. Francis Collins, the head of the National Institutes of Health, said that a decade of stagnant spending has "slowed down" research on all items, including vaccinations for infectious diseases. As a result, he said, the international community has been left playing catch-up on a potentially avoidable humanitarian catastrophe.

"NIH has been working on Ebola vaccines since 2001. It's not like we suddenly woke up and thought, 'Oh my gosh, we should have something ready here,'" Collins told The Huffington Post on Friday. "Frankly, if we had not gone through our 10-year slide in research support, we probably would have had a vaccine in time for this that would've gone through clinical trials and would have been ready."

It's not just the production of a vaccine that has been hampered by money shortfalls. Collins also said that some therapeutics to fight Ebola "were on a slower track than would've been ideal, or that would have happened if we had been on a stable research support trajectory."

"We would have been a year or two ahead of where we are, which would have made all the difference," he said. more . . .

  9. Yet they had funds to waste on finding out why lesbians tend to be fat? And the never-ending search for the elusive gay gene?

This is insulting. They had the funds, just not the sense of priority. Maybe we need some new people running these programs.

Obama suggested the sequester and then the Ryan and Boehner and the establishment Republicans gave it back.

By the way the NIH found the inflation you leftists were denying.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/23/nih-budget-cuts/8056113/

The NIH budget peaked in fiscal year 2010 at $31.2 billion, falling to $30.15 billion for fiscal year 2014.
Due to inflation, the NIH budget has lost 25% of its purchasing power over the last decade, Collins says.
