Because he has nailed Saddam? Ya know, A bonified Turd in the hand is better than - wait that's bird in the hand... Is part one going to show again?
Bush had, has had, and continues to have multiple chances to get the bad guy. The repubs didn't criticize Clinton about Bin Laden much, until after 9/11, which means that they didn't think it was that important when Bush was president. Bush didn't run on a platform of stopping Bin Laden in 2000. After Bin Laden was placed as the most important man to get, the engineer of 3,000 dead, did Bush get the job done? Nope...
Like I said, lil z, spin it any way you want. But when people go in that voting booth, they will remember that YOU democrats wanted to pursue this as a LEGAL matter. Funny how you didn't respond to that part of my post. Let me ask you this. Exactly what would the terrorists have to do for YOU democrats to realize that this isn't a police action? What does it take for you to say this is a war?
Republicans were in control of congress and senate under Clinton. Did they raise a stink about Bin Laden and the need to catch him as soon as possible under Clinton? No. They made impeachment of Clinton job #1, a failed impeachment, an impeachment that was doomed from the start as everyone with half a brain knew the Senate wouldn't impeach, and Clinton would stay in office. When Bush took office in 2001, and had full power and full support of congress, did he make finding Bin Laden an important job? No. He other more important agendas, like prayer meetings in the White House. When it was found out that Bin Laden was the man behind 9/11, Bush made lots of speeches about finding Bin Laden. Did he find him? No. Five years later, do we have Bin Laden? No. No spin, simple facts, facts the republiklans like to avoid and deny. Uh, as far as war doing the job, we have had two since Bush's response to 9/11, Afghanistan and Iraq...and Bin Laden is a free man. So much for wars getting the job done...
I'm not sure if the movie caused it, but I had a nightmare about Chicago being nuked, twice last night. I was somewhere in the northern suburbs and could see the mushroon cloud on the horizon, I remember people scrambling with horror on their faces, running frantically in vain as the explosion closed in. I Must have woke myself sooner after that, I don't remember if I died or not. I'm not prone to premonitions, or nightmares for that matter, but that had me pretty freaked-out.
See how the terrorists are winning? They have you as frightened as the right wing spinners had people in the 50s and 60s afraid of the communists... Are you now going to build a bomb shelter in your basement? LOL...
... Fear itself, right? Are you suggesting communists didn't pose a threat in the 50s,60s? Are you suggesting the communists, (ie; North Koreans) don't pose a threat now? Are you suggesting that a nuke in the hands on any number of anti-american terrorists groups don't pose a threat today? Don't force me to come up with the standard 1000 pages of quotes from left-wingers stating in no uncertain terms what a threat terrorism poses to the US.... Shit, I think a quote from Dennis Kuchinich is possible. I'm not frightened in the least, it's not a question of whether I'll die ... It was a pretty vivid dream. Very freaked out, I almost feel as though I lived through it ...
I am suggesting people in power and politics use fear as a tool to manipulate the sheeple. There is reasonable fear when faced with a reasonable and probable immediate threat, and there is the type of hysteria that leads people to build bomb shelters in their basement, and buy duct tape at the suggestion of Tom Ridge... Try sleeping with the lights on tonight to help you with your irrational fear, or maybe sleep with mommy and daddy....
"type of hysteria that leads people to build bomb shelters in their basement" ...funny stuff. 10,000 USSR Nukes pointed at the US is an imagined and irrational threat? The Cuban Missle Crisis, sheer fantasy? The Doomsday Clock, "a tool to manipulate the sheeple"?? Try to spin that to some inhabitants of Hiroshima. Yes, I wouldn't disagree with your first point. (despite the childish insult). People in all walks of life use fear as a tool to manipulate others. "Eat your green-beans, or you won't get dessert!". Why should politicians be any different than the rest of the human race. Even-so, I'm afraid you seem unable to appreciate the real threat that nukes would pose in the hands of irrational people whose sole purpose is to kill as many americans as possible without regard to the consequences to themselves. It's never a problem, until it is one, right?

The Cuban Missle Crisis, sheer fantasy? The Doomsday Clock, "a tool to manipulate the sheeple"?? Try to spin that to some inhabitants of Hiroshima. Real threat, irrational responses from the sheeple. Same with terrorism. Geniune threat, irrational responses. Even-so, I'm afraid you seem unable to appreciate the real threat that nukes would pose in the hands of irrational people whose sole purpose is to kill as many americans as possible without regard to the consequences to themselves. Having been anti nukes for a long time, I am aware of the dangers. I just don't get hysterical about it. We will all likely die from some other real and present dangers. Want to get hysterical? Think about every time you drive on the freeway at high speeds, and your life is in the hands of the guy changing lanes ahead of you... That is a real and present danger, but most rational folks understand the odds and just drive normally. It's never a problem, until it is one, right? No, it is never a problem until it is a problem, a tautology.
