Yes Popper was a good Philosopher by all accounts. He advocated experimentation by the state on empirical grounds using methodology of the physical sciences in the social sciences. Soros is advocating for more political control of markets, economic re- regulation, new market rules and a new political economy. The new rules have to be either the result of some form of experimentation, calculation or the persuading of politicians to enact theories, models and personnel preferences . Since value is subjective, we cannot quantify or measure it unless we use totalitarianism to determine what people should want under any point in time or future consequence. So value being subjective makes for a self organizing market which encourages innovation and leads to more freedom. State control and rules in markets leads totalitarianism which also brings in the moral aspect that soros doesn't consider. Soros advocates for a free market which is logically impossible considering his other statements.
You would have to ask Soros, but as you must know, he is as strong an opponent of totalitarianism as anyone alive today. He clearly does not think completely unregulated markets are good. But there is so much nuance in his ideas that it is extremely easy to get them wrong, and in fact misunderstand what he advocates -- something so many do.
That's because his ideas are in unresolvable conflicts ,he might say he wants a free market and he is a strong opponent of totalitarianism but he states here he wants to bring politics back into economics who are also by nature corrupt.
soros is in favor of the world govt or body making rules for America... to·tal·i·tar·i·an tōˌtaləˈterēən/ adjective 1. of or relating to a system of government that is centralized and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state. Soros is the spokes model for the neo totalitarianism.
soros is also bringing his preference of a progressive society. Intentions are irrelevant as once governments engage in dissimilar interests of the people then governments must engage in oppression.
For a smart guy, you are incredibly naïve at times. Of course Soros' groups will makes reasonable sounding arguments about "private" censorship, etc. It is a problem. We all know that twitter and facebook are about as fair to conservatives as the IRS is. But Soros' solution is to have some international body regulating it. That body would be composed of people from enlightened countries like Canada, France, Germany etc, where one can be criminally prosecuted for criticizing islam or a host of other vorbotten topics. Is that really what we want? Not me. I judge soros not by his self-serving comments but by where he puts his money. He supports some of the absolutely worst groups in existence, from BLM to moveon.org, etc, etc
The clip you've posted is too sketchy to give an approximate notion of what Soros believes. Much more important then his personal beliefs for traders and investors, however, are his contributions to our understanding of markets and the failings of classical economics. This clip below, IMO, is far, far better for anyone with a sincere interest in trying to understand Soros. It demands close attention however.
Also this last of his lectures at the Central European University will be of great interest to many here.
“I admit that I have always harbored an exaggerated view of my self-importance—to put it bluntly, I fancied myself as some kind of god” or “I carried some rather potent messianic fantasies with me from childhood, which I felt I had to control, otherwise I might end up in the loony bin.” György Schwartz (George Soros)
