Stanley Tookie Williams executed Crips gang co-founder put to death for 4 murders Tuesday, December 13, 2005; Posted: 3:59 a.m. EST (08:59 GMT) SAN QUENTIN, California (CNN) -- Stanley Tookie Williams -- the co-founder of the violent Crips street gang who became an anti-gang crusader while on death-row -- died by lethal injection early Tuesday for the 1979 killings of four people in two Los Angles robberies. -------------------------------- A quarter-century late, but it's done.
No need to execute, they can be held in prison without possibility of parole. There is a perfect system, actually. It is a system based on the golden rule. Do unto others. Murderers almost always want to live. If they don't want to live, let them drink hemlock.... If you murdered someone in a fit of rage....would you want to be put to death? If you murdered someone due to a compulsion, you heard voices that said "Kill my mother and father"....and the prison psychiatrists discovered you were able to be in control of the voices in your head with a new medication, the voices went away for you...would you want to be put to death? We need to protect society, that's what being separated from society by going to prison does, especially solitary confinement. Why does society need to "punish" then? To reform? If it is to reform, to be made "new" to help the prisoner think about his wrong doing in order to reform to re-enter society? Or is it to play out a Biblical or Koran style mentality, where we must exact a revenge, an eye for an eye in order to satisfy our religious beliefs? Or do we kill these people because they are "evil" and we must kill "evil"..... we must not let "evil" live? Or do we act in a more evolved manner even toward those who acted in a barbaric fashion that took away a life, with compassion, with forgiveness, with the evolved qualities of a civilized society where all life, even the life of a murderer is considered worth preserving because life is given by God, and should only be taken by God?
are you sane? since when has the death penalty ever been a deterrent? if the death penalty was a deterrent, there would be no more murders. there are murders. so the death penalty is not a deterrent. period. the death penalty is just the mark of a people who are 200 years behind civilized society in the evolution curve. america is full of shit. it tortures (camp x-ray), it murders in the name of justice (tookie et al) it censors political views (covering up the number of us soldiers killed in iraq) it deliberately kills innocent civilians in war (iraq & the phosphorous/shake n bake debate) it crushes the right to worship according to ones religion (christmas) its leader lies knowingly to the people (wmd's) it riggs elections (remember florida) it seems more like it should be on the axis of evil every day
do these sound like the actions of a sane rational person? to me they sound like the actions of a lunatic who who has severe mental issues. should we then execute all people who have mental issues? how about kill all psychopaths - as they have the potential to kill? how about all people who have mental illness? how about retards? how about all people who dont think the right way? what about democrats? what about the poor? what about.....? what these people have done is terrible. i dont think they should be allowed out. but i dont think death is the answer. perhaps its just the mark of a society who thinks the way to deal with its problems is just to ignore them, brush them under the carpet, or dispose of them, without a 2nd thought to how to stop the issue from reoccurring in the first place. it doesnt matter if the problem is a candy wrapper, carbon dioxide emissions, the mentally insane or another country it has just invaded. just bin it and hope it will go away. this society forgets that IT created the problem in the first place. the society refuses to look in the mirror and truthfully accept the damage it is doing to ITSELF. this appalling attitude is the reason why a once great country finds itself going backwards, while the rest of the developed world (who also once had the same attitude 100 years ago), continues to grow and prosper.
To answer spec. I probably would be able to argue for death. I could not personally flip the switch. I am fully aware of the inconsistency and do not like it.
Yes, it is quite clear that there are men who are constitutionally capable of killing their fellow man without a second thought. Here, there, and everywhere...... One stands on one side of law, the other stands on the opposite side of law...but they are both killers..... Yes, they are both killers, and both rationalize their actions of killing at the time they kill.....
Capital punishment is as fundamentally wrong as a cure for crime as charity is wrong as a cure for poverty. Henry Ford Murders still take place. Poverty is widespread. We need to make some changes.
