  1. nice chart!

Please have no qualms about posting commodity fundies if you have the time. I know I would like to learn more and I suspect others would too.

  2. the chart below is a seasonal chart of Dec Hogs. the hogs exhibit some of the strongest seasonal tendencies of anything i've looked at

a seasonal chart just shows where price typically is within the "range" of contract prices

this year has not been typical per say, in that the recent highs have also been contract highs (typically they come in May). still there is a strong downward bias during the month of October, 14 out of the last 14 years is pretty strong . . .

  4. I had already sold some calls several days ago at 1.05, so to say that I "caught the move" on BRCM would be lame. I covered the Oct 30's today at 35.

The price action of the chart after I posted the 'opportunity' reminds me of a signature that Zentrader used to have... "the first move is a fake." This happens so much, in fact it was the main premise of the method I used to trade the spoos when in the pit during the late 80's.

Lol, of course that was way back in the last century. :)

P.S. - limit moves don't happen very often in the financial stuff - index, bond, currency - but they happen quite often in the hogs. there is an interesting rule concerning the implications of limit moves called the Howe Limit Rule. info about it can be found at the Moore Research Center website

  6. It sure would be nice if cattle would do the same. I'm tired of paying up for porterhouse b/c everyone in the US is on the Atkins Diet.

  10. today another fine example of Howe's Limit rule playing out, limit up day on Friday

then back under the influence of the seasonal bias

lots of fireworks in the hogs, anybody wanting more volatility in the markets sure ain't trading this one

    limit down today
