Classic Geometric Patterns and Narrow Range Setups

  1. Interesting that you should mention it Trader'. and btw, welcome to ET.

No, I am not looking for an increase in the ATR. At best, I am looking for a return to the ATR. Easyguru is looking for a multi-day trade, but I would guess his answer is no - logically, but yes - hopefully. I mean who wouldn't want the trade to explode?

    :)

    Thanks for the welcome inandlong.
I look for this increase in ATR. It is essential to Toby Crabel. By the way, gaps count as increase in ATR according to Crabel but in my experience when they become too large, there is little room for price improvement. If you ever follow news plays or earnings you'll notice this. The kinda gap and then flop around in a range.

  3. Trader' I have experienced the same re: gaps, which led to my thinking about looking only for a return to the ATR versus an increase.

The spreadsheet of results task should/could be ready by this evening. I have been working on one with StockWatch Pro that will easily compile the data for Excel. 'Easily' is the key term in most things I do. :)

However, sunny', having looked over the data for the last several days, I think I see more completely what your chief concern is about the NRID method. At least in a duller market, there are a number of small gains that turn into small losses - not to mention the number of candidates overall can make the method somewhat unwieldy.

    Still working.

Take a look at where the stock opens relative to yesterday. It's a nice little hint if it opens near yesterday's high/low and continues to break through. It's not quite a gap but it's a little tell.

  7. Anyone get short on the IdNr breakdown?
Not me. My alert went off but sometimes I have so much going on I can't get it all. Maybe I can train my dog to do it.:D

  8. Trader', riskarb is a good friend of mine. Not only is he a brilliant person, but he is also an extraordinary options strategist. If you have an interest in options you will find his posts very worthwhile reading.

In general it is an astute crowd that hangs in the options forum. That's why I am rarely there. :D

Uptik...same here. Hopefully someone made some nice coin, whether on the NRID break, or the triangle break. Very nice work uptik' and thanks for the heads up.

  9. What to do when you unintentionally (or intentionally) miss a breakout from consolidation? A trader who bought this breakout might be having second thoughts now – or possibly adding to the position?

  10. in this thread ... but I find sometimes the same setups

working in all time frames ....

only problem is I do not have the software of funds or patience
    to catch them all

    :p
