High school and college graduates are still being hobbled by years of weak economic growth and an extremely tight job market, and that difficult start in the job market could impact the Class of 2013 for years to come, a new analysis finds.

"Graduating in a bad economy has long-lasting economic consequences," said Heidi Shierholz, economist with the Economic Policy Institute, which prepared the report on young workers released Wednesday.

A big study released yesterday by the Economic Policy Institute called the “Class of 2013″ confirms what you’ve already seen up close: high school and college grads are in serious trouble. Half of all high school grads under 25 are underemployed, while 30% are unemployed; 18% of college grads are not working enough, while 9% are out of work altogether.

The liberal-leaning think tank looked at high school graduates between ages 17 and 20 who aren't enrolled in further schooling, as well as college graduates between ages 21 and 24 who have a bachelor's degree and aren't seeking further education.

According to EPI's analysis, the Class of 2013 could be earning less than they might have in a stronger economy for as long as 10 or 15 years.

That's Obama's plan. Put them all on foodstamps, Obama phones and welfare. Turn them into shiftless parasites and Democrap voters.

Thanks, Obama, for causing so many to gamble on real estate in the early 2000s with the unregulated flood of Sino and petro dollars.

No sympathy here, those students voted to kill the economy that might have supported them.

Somebody has to be a waiter. A few years of that might adjust their outlook.

  6. 1) Yes, it sucks to be "them" but what percent of college grads are graduating with "wimpy" majors such as philosophy, graphic arts, womens studies, film, African-American studies, music, crime scene investigator, massage et al compared to science, computers and engineering?
    2) Is the presence of recent immigrant children skewing statistics also? :(
