The Gulf Cooperation Council has affirmed Qatar's decision to recognise the Libyan opposition's National Council as the country's "sole legitimate" representative.

A statement from Abdulrahman al-Attiyah, the secretary-general of the GCC said:

The Secretary General of the GCC confirmed that Qatar's_recognition of the transitional council as the only legitimate_representative of the Libyan people comes in line with the_decisions of the GCC with Qatar's stance supporting the choices_of the Libyan people and their protection from the continuous_brutality of the regime ... The Libyan system has lost its legitimacy."
