It's not in the interest of Western powers to allow the Libyan unrest to fester forever. Nor are they willing to indefinitely provide air covers for the rag-tag bunch whose noble aspiration to topple the Gaddafi regime is considered highly admirable but fall short of concrete goals nonetheless. Moreover, if the West were to leave Libya with Gaddafi in power, their military efforts would only end in vain. All things considered, it's inevitable that the ground troops are sent in to remove Gaddafi for good.
