In Santa Barbara it's 3:20 AM. Got up to use the bathroom and flipped on the Weather Channel and they're talking about a Tsunami Warning here. There was a major 8.9 earthquake in Japan and it caused a massive Tsunami. I heard about it last night just as I was flipping through the TV channels one more time right before I went to sleep. The Tsunami is supposed to arrive here at 8:17 AM and hit Hawaii in a few hours. I really don't think it would be bad here as we have the Channel Island right off our coast that block bigger waves. However, you never know so I may take a drive up the mountains a little above Santa Barbara, just in case it is bad. Better to be safe than sorry as they say. It will work it's way down the West Coast starting in British Columbia I guess and won't take that long to move. As I said the estimated time of arrival for us is 8:17 AM PST and for Newport Beach near where I grew up it's 8:37 AM and that's 130 miles south of here. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42023385/ns/world_news-asia-pacific/
Don't take the risk, just drive to these mountains. I hear the aftershocks nr Japan are of magnitude 7-8, which is bigger than most earthquakes anyway. Those could trigger further tsunamis.
