One thing Twitter is good for is following the thought processes of smart people- their ideas on longer time frame economic ideas and life. Sometimes getting a better handle on how to think about situations is enough- better mental models. There can be better ways of looking at things or we are on the right track and need our ideas reinforced or fleshed out, etc. Ray Dalio and Farnhamstreet (Charlie Munger frequently is mentioned) are two. Part on the value is the links to articles and videos.
I am actually curious about 2 things concerning both of these traders: 1. How did they do in the last 3-5 years? Their big hits happened 10+ years ago. Have they maintained high % returns or did they came back to the average? 2. It is nice to have lots of money, but if they are not using it, what is the point? So how are their lifestyles have changed? I am not talking about extravagant lifestyles, but don't be like the Hound of Hounslow... I am not expecting an answer, but those are more interesting questions than trying to follow their non-trading related tweets, or average market commentary...
Buffett bought this house in the 50s, he still lives in the same house today. I don't think he lives differently today, the second richest man in the US, as when he was just a run of the mills millionaire then:
Why mess with a good thing, if he liked the house? On the other hand he has other houses, and why own when you can rent? The point was, if you make it big, don't let your mother work TWO fucking jobs when you are sitting on 40 mill, like Sarao did. And I did mention I don't want extravagant lyfestyle, but being this in Japan, maybe they could move to a 3 bedrooms apartment... Or they could hire a catsitter, while they travel a bit... As about the other point, I bet they haven't had a similar size or % trade in years. Bell curve and such...
No. He sold one in 2006 at the housing peak. Sold the second recently, I read he almost never visited them, bought them as investment.
What happened to him? All the news just suddenly stopped when it became clear he gave the money to two con artists.
I think he is still waiting for sentencing and the US government took all his money... From Wiki: "As of June 2017 Sarao had not yet been sentenced."
