The guilty plea was entered in court by Nasson Joaquin Garcia, leader and self-styled apostle of the Guadalajara-based church La Luz del Mundo (Light of the World), three days before he was scheduled to go on trial, according to a statement from the California attorney general's office. Sentencing for Garcia, 53, was scheduled for next Wednesday. He faces up to 16 years and eight months in prison, prosecutors said. His conviction caps an investigation that began in 2018 leading to Garcia's arrest the following year at Los Angeles International Airport with a co-defendant, Susana Medina Oaxaca, who pleaded guilty on Friday to a charge of assault likely to cause great bodily harm, the attorney general's office said. Garcia pleaded guilty to two counts of forcible oral copulation involving minors and one count of a lewd act upon a child. The charges stem from abuse of three underage victims, prosecutors said. A second co-defendant, Alondra Ocampo, also arrested in 2019, pleaded guilty in 2020 to three felony counts of contact with a minor for purposes of committing a sexual offense and one count of forcible sexual penetration. Garcia, Oaxaca and Ocampo had faced 36 felony offenses in all, including charges of rape, human trafficking and child pornography. The majority of those counts were dropped in return for the defendants' guilty pleas. A fourth individual charged in the investigation, Azalea Rangel Melendez, remains at large, prosecutors said. La Luz del Mundo is the largest evangelical church in Mexico, dating to the 1920s, with branches in 50 countries and boasting about 5 million members. When a Los Angeles judge ordered Garcia to stand trial in August 2020, the church issued a statement defending their leader as wrongly accused, saying the charges against him stemmed from "unsubstantiated anonymous allegations" and "blatant hearsay." Just because someone says they are a Christian or even lead others (there is such a thing as the blind leading the blind) does not mean that they are reading the Word of God and obeying what it says. All people disobey God's standards of what is right, but there are varying degrees of how far down the road of disobedience one goes. Only those who have turned to God in recognition of their sin and for His help in cleansing for sin through the blood, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ will receive His pardon and help against the sin battle. Many who call Jesus "Lord" do not follow God's commands and Jesus says that on Judgment Day He will tell them that He never knew them and commands them to depart from Him. In case someone thinks this is teaching salvation by works, it's not, based on other Scriptures. However, it does point out that the heart condition of someone who says they are following Jesus yet never have obediently believed on Jesus as Savior and repented from sin, but simply say they are believers and say Jesus is Lord, though not living it, these people will not make it into heaven. Matthew 7:21-23 Obviously, those who are involved in immorality yet say they are Christians are not following this passage of Scripture either: 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Yes, and clever, who would of thought thousands of years ago, the best way to destroy humans is via pretending to be God = religion.
Religion, a history of division, wars, segregation, power, corruption, deception, control, class levels, sexual exploitation of minors, fear, superstition, hocus pocus theories. Instead of uniting people it divides people, and proud of that accomplishment. If the whole world were christian, you would have a world of slavery, fear, subservience to the church. The more power you give, the more they take. The church is not an institution which never changes the rules, it does change the rules depending on how much control it has. Take away the power a church has, it changes the rules to adapt, to survive. Stop asking stupid questions!
Instead of the world progressing, the church wants you to remain stupid, to not change, stymie thinking, to live in the past, to cling to nonsense, to debunk science, remain rooted in fear and tradition. Whatever you do, don't think for yourself, you must remain in the clan of church group think.
