    oops..
Jesus Christ was a serious capitalist, as portrayed in the The Parable of the Servants & Ten Minas (Luke 19:11)

JC was also a capitalist cowboy builder.

Research shows that Jacob, Joseph and Sons Inc. were one of the most notorious house building contractors in the Galilean area, Jesus H. Christ being the worst practitioner of his trade.
Apparently he had no real interest in carpentry, which was evident by his obvious distractions in other stuff and for the crappy workmanship, by constructing units too near the sea he always gave the same old excuse to his customers (Luke 6:49)

"But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great."

Also like all cowboy builders he was always late for work. In his estimates he would include the proviso that..(Matthew 24:44)

"Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."

  4. I appreciate your wit, Stu, though I think even you will agree Christ had more pressing things on his mind than making a buck...

1 Thessalonians 4:17: "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands... so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody."

sounds like capitalism to me, like the life of a trader even... "not dependent on anybody" includes the government... Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Solomon, David, Job... all were seriously rich dudes...to borrow a phrase from Chris Rock, ain't nuttin' wrong wid dat...

a lot of the confusion comes from the fact that scripture condemns usury, which is lending at excessively high rates of interest.... in otherwords, don't be a loan shark and don't try to rip people off

the verse madison quoted in which the rich man was told to sell all his possessions was not a sweeping economic statement... it was a specific observation directed at a specific individual.... Christ looked at this man and saw that his money was his god, and so advised him to get rid of it... it's possible to idolize / make a god out of just about anything- health, wealth, social status, athletic ability, trading ability, nintendo, deep sea fishing, whatever... even virtues like humility and tolerance (a liberal favorite) can be turned into false gods...

I see your point darkhorse, I too was responding to Opton's assertion that Jesus Christ was not a capitalist, when if one reads the Bible it is possible to deduct that he & God were capitalists at least in principle (in the parts they wanted to be). Christian Traders would have yet a further dilema to add to the long list of conflicting instructions they say they like to follow and shove at others.
....didn't you forget to include religion ??
....attaching too much importance to nuance, contradiction and falsehood could be construed as idolatry.
I agree and the biggest false god of them all the big G itself.

btw.I hope you are doing good. we go back a little on ET, nice to hear from you again :)

  9. uh folks, you are forgetting some very important things, or more likely you simply don't know shit about the bible.

-Some of the hero's of the bible were very wealthy and were not criticized for it.

-"The LOVE of money is the root of all evil", not money itself.

-The camel in the needle thing is interpreted as meaning that a very wealthy man should give his money away, and most very wealthy christians give away large sums every year.

-jesus was an enemy of every state he ever lived in and would not submit to the government telling how to live, so he most definitely was not a socialist.

-The philosophy of socialism is "secular humanism" which is a deceptive way of saying atheism, and that humans can completely control their own destiny, completely the opposite message of Jesus and the entire Bible.

  10. if Jesus were alive today, the biggest problem he would have would be with the current fiat money banking system, which is based upon Usury.
