http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showt...perpage=6&highlight=unemployment&pagenumber=2 When trying to support your argument that Obama wont win re election because the unemployment rate is 9 % you make the 1.5 % difference a big deal, but today you see no difference between 15 % and 30 % I'd like to also point out that your statement that I quoted was also a lie as FDR won re election with unemployment above 7.5 %
It's not a function of percentage. It's the mood of the country. They are only numbers. There really is no difference between 8% and 9% unemployment. I can count on one hand how many times in the last 100 years we have had a number this high. Do you really think the public cares if the rate is 8.7 vs say 8.3? Come on man, you are really ignorant. Same with the black unemployment rate. Do you think African Americans care what the "stated" rate is. If you go up to any black man on the street, he will probably tell you the unemployment is 50% for blacks. Because that is what it "feels" like to him. You just don't get it. Maybe when you get out of college and spend some time in the real world you will understand.
http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showt...perpage=6&highlight=unemployment&pagenumber=2 So if unemployment was at 7.4 % I guess you would not have posted this but today you argue that there is no difference between a few percentage points...OK pal
Well, to be completely fair, if the unemployment rate were to suddenly improve that much from 9.1 to 7.4, Obama gets re-elected in a landslide. That would be a significant improvement. And the trend would be at his back. But when the rate is flat lining for 3 years like it has been, whether it goes up to 9.5 or down to 8.7 is really semantics.
This is something that A GAY 47 doesnt understand because he has never had to pay a bill. There are alot of people out there who have gotten themselves into financial shit based solely on their own stupidity, and they are backed up on all their bills even though nothing has really changed for them from pre-2008 in terms of earnings. But all of a sudden they hear about a neighbor or someone they know who lost their job and they have a wonderful scapegoat so they can avoid the reality that they were the ones who fucked up. It goes like this: "Geeeez bob(the neighbor) just got laid off, if it wasnt for this terrible economy i wouldnt have the 18 grand of credit card debt.... (even though the debt was racked up over the past few years) All of a sudden every persons financial woes have a scape goat, regardless of whether or not it was the economy that caused it. After listening to the way most people talk about their finances, and life in general, and listening to what the liberals love to feed them, i have realised that people will do everything they can do avoid responsibility for their own actions, so they hear the economy is bad and thats where they lay the blame, people who can give you a realistic assesment of themselves are few and far between in this world. I find that this is one of the biggest differences you will see in a successful business person/trader vs. your average every day person. Successful people generally are very good at taking their own inventory, while most people who are complete failures are not. Guess whose going to pay the price for every single person who doesnt want to take responsibility for their own financial woes come election time?
Can we just end this meaningless and bullshit metric of the official unemployment rate? As many others have pointed out, in a recession/depression like the current one with chronic long term unemployment, it's quite possible that the unemployment rate will actually improve over time as more and more individuals simply fall off the rolls. The labor participation rate is a better gauge and that's currently at levels not seen in about 30 years when the "official" unemployment rate was higher than today. To be honest, after three years of ZIRP and an alphabet soup of stimulus programs, the fact that unemployment pressures continue to fester should tell everyone how structural this situation has become. There is no fix for this one.
Small minds like the one in AK's pointy little head tend to clutch at numbers. He must catagorize everything into the win or loss column because of the inability to originate a thought not already originated by someone else.
