Chinese now control 1/4 of UK's power distribution

  1. HONG KONG—Tycoon Li Ka-shing's $9.1 billion deal for three U.K. power grids owned by Electricite de France SA makes him one of the biggest owners of Britain's infrastructure, with assets ranging from the Port of Felixstowe to Cambridge Water.

    As a result of Friday's landmark deal, Mr. Li, one of the richest men in Asia, now controls about a quarter of the U.K.'s power distribution, around 10% of gas supply and less than 5% of water supply, said a person familiar with the matter.
