It's amazing and sad that on a TRADING forum none of you are talking about TRADE profit opportunities. You're discussing geopolitical stuff. Where are your TRADE ideas.... Buy puts in TSM? Long or short SOXS vs SOXL? What will this do for markets in general? Just saying.... what are the trading opportunities, how to make money from this? I'm going to daytrade SOXS/SOXL.
I agree with everything you said fully. But the wrong action and response would be to stoop down to their level. It destroys everything the US fought for and its soldiers died for.
China semiconductor industry decapitated -It's not decapitated. It's just delayed. LOL Nobody can decapitate the almighty China. Stop with the clickbait titles.
I agree. This should be in "Politics" or "Chit chat". In fact, anything started by @earth_imperator and @VicBee about China should all go to "Politics" or "Chit chat". LOL
What do you mean by "stooping down to their level"? LOL China's level is not low. What are you talking about? And besides this is not stooping down to anybody's level. This is about survival. Nice try, trying to put the US and the West on a higher pedestal to let China win. Honestly I don't care if China wins but the problem is China's not a country that tolerates people who are different from them. So once they dominate the world, anybody who's different from them are going to be annihilated unless you conform to them, their ways, their culture and everything. Just look at how they are treating the Uyghurs. Do you want you and your whole family to spend the rest of their lives in "re-educational" concentration camps? I don't. Unless of course you are Chinese like many that hide on ET to spread Chinese propaganda.
I used to be in the semi industry. It's highly cyclical industry. Ups and downs are expected. The current down cycle may not be due the US action. Long SOXS and short SOXL.
Lots of various points addressed in the thread. My intent was more about discussing the impact on the world's economies as this action is quite dramatic, but somehow it went political like your post. On one hand you ask that the thread be moved to chit chat or politics and yet you make it political. I agree about Chinese intolerance born of a deeply hierarchical cultural history that is common of other East Asian nations, like the Koreas, Japan or Indonesia. Each at one point in their history has shown the cruelty of such intolerance. Yet, the West has no lessons to give. We have no moral superiority. Our ability to inflict pain on others is legendary, for land, for wealth, for church, for ethnic purity or cultural superiority, anything has been a good enough reason to kill.
Are you @M.W? LOL That's my post responding to @M.W. So that's your alter ego on ET. I knew it. You are one of those Chinese who hide on ET to spread Chinese propaganda. LOL
And furthermore, I can't help that my posts seem to be "political" to you when your original post that created this thread is political to begin with. Calling the kettle black much? And besides your post did not address or even mention any economic impact of this restriction on exporting chip processor materials to China besides using inflammatory clickbait words like "decapitate" and talking about how chinese semiconductor industry is destroyed and how unfair it is when your post is in the category of "Economics". How is this restriction having to do with Economics?? And of course it didn't help when other posters like @earth_imperator (probably another of your alter ego) just kept putting in political comments one after another all spreading Chinese propaganda and bashing USA and the west. Congratulations that your thread generated viewership and discussions, all 5 pages of them and I am sure more forthcoming but it still doesn't negate the fact that this thread should be in the "Politics" or "Chit chat" section.
And considering that Chinese government just needs to not interfere in Hong Kong's political system for 50 YEARS, not forever!!! The British, probably recognizing that eventually China would want to take over Hong Kong and govern it fully according to their own political system at sometime, because after all, it is their territory, agreed to the Basic Law that Hong Kong would have full autonomy in governing their own affairs, electing their own leaders among candidates chosen by their own as status quo for 50 years until 2047!! 50 years!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong_Basic_Law China just needed to stick it out for 50 years and then Hong Kong will be all theirs to do whatever it pleases and it couldn't even do it. It had only been 25 years and China just couldn't hold it anymore. So this just shows there is just no laws, no agreements with China. China will only adhere to them when it wants to and when it doesn't want to, it just doesn't. Unless you want to go to war with China, you are just basically stuck with whatever they choose to do.
