While I am no China apologist and recognize the very real danger of Chinese nationalism being used to keep stability and central control in the face of economic unrest we should also understand that it is not China flying spy planes up and down our coasts. The only time that a US navy jet and a Chinese plane will be in the same airspace is when we are just off their coast spying on them as we were in that instance. Can you imagine US reaction to "routine" surveliance missions up and down our coats lines, international airspace or not. Think Cuban Missle Crisis. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=950DE5DD113FF931A35757C0A9679C8B63
What's really scary is that while every country has people who's grasp of international relations and political history is rudimentary enough to lead them to make gross misjudgements, in China the government's propaganda machine intentionally distorts the historical record and encourages xenophodia and jingoism. In the past it has done this so that it could convince its population to make sacrifices that were in the national interest. Also, historically the Chinese have very good reason to distrust the motives of foreign powers (read the "Rape of Nanjing"), but it wouldn't take much to harness those same nationalistic fervors to their growing military machine if that is what it took to maintain control in an economic collapse. If I lived in Taiwan I would be preparing myself for being part of China possibly within the decade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_Massacre http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium_Wars
India also has a "hidden desire" to dominate USA. India wants to be a supreme power in Economy, military, financial status, pornography (they think nudity is status symbol). To some extent USA created the Monster (India) by outsourcing IT jobs, manufacturing jobs and Techonology. USA has a bad habit of creating MONSTERS which then come back to Devourer/Eat USA. If these Monsters are not stopped now, then God, the future of USA is bleak.
there were justifiable inflation fears till july - just recall commodities' prices. it is easy with 20-20 hindsight to say he should have expected the worst credit crunch in 100 years - get back to reality. by the way he is turning hawkish again - so you know what happens unless there are clear deflationary signs after commodities' declines are priced into cpi... when circumstances change your policy changes in order to achieve your objective. this behavioral attitude is easy to read for ordinary folks - and that's what matters for monetary policy with inflation targeting. for myself i always understood what ecb said - but no so with fed. fed is a total mess. at least after the last meeting we know a bit more than usual, i.e. all is allowed - total intervention and fucking up the markets.
To some extent? It was US corporate greed that threw our own qualified peope to the outsourcing wolves. It was done with the consent and encouragement of the US people who wanted better earnings and cheaper goods. People like Pat Buchanan, one of the few on the right with real intellectual integrity and deep understanding of history, were not at all popular with the GOP, infact he was destroyed by the GOP and he was the best of them in terms of intellect (too bad about his Christian zealotry).
I think the only reason Indians get USA jobs is that they agree to work for low wages/salary. Americans demand high wages. Now there is "mass umemployment" in USA.
China and India are more dangerous than Taliban and Al-Qaeda because they have "hidden desires". Taliban and Al-Qaeda give public statements and make their intentions clear/open to the world. They are less dangerous.
