What if Trump comes out and says "I-Phones are exempt from tariffs since Tim Cooke committed to building here and we realize this won't happen overnight. But since he committed, no tariffs on I-Phones." And then makes similar announcements for other companies making products wherever, if they "commit." Seems to me that would be a way to appease the markets without looking like he was backing down, WHICH he has to do because China won't. They won't Sooo.. I think someone knows something... why is Apple up so much today on huge volume? Who the hell is gonna buy a $2000 I-Phone or a $4000 tablet? It should be falling like a rock. And there's way too much liquidity for that to be anything close to a short squeeze. I think the Q's are consolidating. $215 held for two days, $216 today, $217 now. Perhaps we'll see the reverse of the last two days... IE a big run into the close. If that happenes, we go up tomorrow too. Ignore the "experts" on TV. Their track record is horrendous, they don't know anymore than the folks here at ET imo. BTFD!

The answer is real simple. People on ET dont listen. That's why I keep silent. I participate only when there is some element of humor/sarcasm. You previously pointed out that I like or hate Trump and in reply I did point out that it was your ignorance. On ET, people who know don't talk, and people who talk don't know. And people who try to sound very smart are extremely ignorant and are full of hubris. Now that you asked, let me explain: i-phones are made in China, Vietnam, India. China has a big tariff slap. Vietnam has 46% but wants to negotiate and that could take some time. Tariff on India is 26%. So, all shipments to the USA would be routed from the Indian factories while China and Vietnam would cater to the rest of the world for Apple. So now the tariff is just 26%. Even that could come down in future because even before these tariffs were announced, since Trump 2.0 is in place USA and India are negotiating trade agreement. Indian Prime Minister is one of the first batch of leaders to have visited the White House after Trump's inauguration and they discussed a trade deal. USTR and India's commerce minister are busy working out a trade deal which is likely to be signed by fall of this year. So, heavens are not really going to fall. Earlier, TPP was signed by several nations. USA and India were supposed to join TPP. But these two nations did not sign. There is some clue in that as well. That was during Trump 1.0 and Modi was India's prime minister at that time too. Both of them wanted to protect their respective nation's interests by not joining TPP. TPP would be and is being exploited by China just like it did with WTO entry.
