  2. Chinese leadership is usually practical. They will inevitably have the wotld’s largest economy and millitary. It will not be long before we will be courting their favor.

Next, we need to normalize relations with Russia. In time, Russia, with all of its resources and underutilized land, may start feeling uncomfortable with the massively industrialized, heavily populated, and practical country on their southern border.

We share a historic European heritage with the Russians and are more likely to get along with each other long term than with China. Russia and the United States need to get their collective fingers out of their asses first.

Even better would be mutual cooperation among the three major powers. Such cooperation would likely accelerate our development as a species or at least ensure our short term survival. Additionally, with the big three working together for a change, smaller countries may be more likely to cooperate with the world community. The key would be for the big three to not act like bullies.

We need to get the arms manufacturers to focus on infrastructure for space exploration instead of weapons and “stirring up the geopolitical pot”.

Trump didn't win anything really if you read what Trump said between the lines.

"We hope developed countries will stop imposing restrictions on normal and reasonable trade of high-tech products and relax export controls on such trade with China," he said, not naming any specific country."

Xi's basically saying "Fine we will balance the trade surplus (on cheap goods which we don't care about anymore anyway) but we want access to your hi-tech. and we want your market for our own value-added high-end technology products which is what we are producing right now. We won't steal by infringing on your intellectual property but we want you to give them to us".

China is done with peddling $1 cheap wares in Walmart and dollar mart now it wants to compete with companies like INTEL, Microsoft.

    Get ready for Pandasoft!

I never understood WHY USA choose to be in a cold war with Russia in the first place given even the close ethnic roots between the people of the two countries besides anything else. From a resource point of view, Russia is even more important to USA. I would think USA and Russia should have been working more closely from long time ago instead of letting China take advantage of the "cold war" stance and ally with Russia so closely all these years. Once China gets strong, Russia is going to be even more important to USA. You never know whether this might be the reason why China has decided to work with USA on this trade issue instead of still adopting the hardline rhetoric like before in that it doesn't want to push USA too close to Russia. But nevertheless I am glad China has decided to take the high road and focus on bigger issues and at the same time making things easier for the rest of the world. Just hope Xi won't get into too much trouble for this back home with the Chinese rednecks who's all about Chinese nationalism which I call Chinalism.

And I agree that we really do need to dedicate more resources to space exploration. The earth is REALLY getting too small.

Pull back NATO to 1991 levels first and then only cry for Russia to join hands as a geopolitical ally. Doubt Russians would be stupid to trust the west so easily.

Chinese? a fake power, relying on demands from outside world using the slave labor production shops. If West goes into recession, China will sink into depression. Disgusting Commies spreading an exploitative model of use and abuse trade practices all round the world.

One of the smartest plays by China. They realized how US companies use 3rd world countries for sweat shop labor (look at Latin America) which suppresses any hope for those countries' domestic industries. The "forced" partnerships have allowed China to have a strong domestic industry albeit on really obsolete tech which is better than nothing.

Seeing how China went through 2008 relatively unscathed, your link between West recession and China depression is suspicious.

This Trump fellow...have you been watching him much? LOL.

He can claim victory here, but he needs to tamp down the tweeting on all of this. What the Chinese hate the most is not the issue of renegotiating trade, it's the public nature of the discussion. Trump and Wilbur could do really well if they just quietly go about the business of talking to the Chinese behind closed doors. If it works out well, Trump can brag about it a few years down the road when he's up for re-election.

China is doing the same now. They are all over Africa...cutting deals with governments to build infrastructure - with some local labor and some Chinese "slave" labor - in return for the placement of subbed out industry and the rights to mine ore.

We thought it was great to have our jeans made in China for $7. China has discovered that they can have Africa make them for $1. Welcome to the evolving world economy.
