  1. The Hong Kong vs China mess. Everyone must of knew the outcome back in 1997. HK is a world financial leader and China chose military route. Shame on China.

  2. Wait...we put sanctions on Chinese military agency because they bought military equipment from Russia instead of us.

It's called a free market...and who is scared of Russian missles an MIT freshman can out build.

U.S. Retreats on Chinese Tariff Threats

WASHINGTON—The Trump administration abruptly offered China—and U.S. consumers—a reprieve from sweeping tariffs that were poised to hit on Sept. 1, sending stocks sharply higher and raising hopes for reviving talks on a trade deal.

Trade talks appeared in jeopardy after the Trump administration threatened on Aug. 1 to extend tariffs of 10% to $300 billion in Chinese imports not currently taxed, including many consumer goods. They would come on top of 25% tariffs imposed on $250 billion in imports from China.

The office of the U.S. Trade Representative on Tuesday said it would instead delay the new tariffs on many major categories of items, including smartphones, laptop computers and toys, until Dec. 15.

The USTR said some products would be removed from the tariff lists entirely, based on health, safety, national-security and other factors. The list of excluded items includes some of the biggest-ticket items facing tariffs. Cellphones and laptops alone represent about $80 billion of trade.

The action came after U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin participated in a call on Tuesday with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He regarding the trade talks, which President Trump called a “very good call.”

China “would really like to make a deal,” Mr. Trump told reporters in Morristown, N.J.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry said ministry said the U.S. had initiated the call, and that the two sides agreed to speak again by phone in two weeks. It made no mention of plans for face-to-face talks, which had been scheduled to take place in Washington in September.

In a tweet, Mr. Trump touted the possibility of Chinese purchases of agriculture, as he has done before. Since Mr. Trump threatened to move forward with the tariffs on Sept. 1, China announced it would halt purchases of many U.S. agricultural goods, a move that had deepened the woes of the Farm Belt.

A lot of this would actually work if the country was united behind the President's agenda to force China to behave. But because China is emboldened by the knowledge that there is a massive resist movement against Trump, they are hoping to hold out until the next President comes to power and lets them continue to get away with everything they have been getting away with all along.

So if anyone is an "asset" of China, if anyone is helping them, it is you folks on the left. But you folks can't see past your venom and outrage at having lost the election with Hillary.

WATCH: Trump makes bizarre statement about Japanese wheat imports that leaves CNN fact checker baffled

President Donald Trump on Tuesday made a bizarre and factually inaccurate statement about the trade relationship between America and Japan that left CNN fact checker Daniel Dale utterly baffled.

During a speech supposedly about energy production in Pennsylvania, Trump once again suggested that Japan was ripping off the United States because it did not import enough American products

“I told [Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo] Abe, great guy, I said, ‘Listen, we have a massive deficit with Japan,'” he said. “They send us thousands and thousands — millions! — of cars, we send them wheat. Wheat! That’s not a good deal. And they don’t even want our wheat, they do it to make us feel that we’re okay, you know, they do it to make us feel good.”

The U.S. trade deficit with Japan was $56.8 billion in 2018, as the United States exported $120.4 billion worth of goods and services to Japan, while importing $177.1 billion.

Contrary to the president’s claims, however, the Office of the United States Trade Representative says that top exports to Japan in 2018 included mineral fuels ($8.8 billion), machinery ($8.2 billion), optical and medical instruments ($7.5 billion), aircraft ($6.5 billion), and electrical machinery ($4.8 billion).

Additionally, wheat was not even the top agricultural export to Japan, as the United States exported significantly more in corn, beef, pork, and soybeans.

Trump’s statement about trade with Japan was so strange that CNN fact checker Dale could only write “???” after transcribing it.

First of all, there is no such thing as a "CNN Fact Checker". That's an oxymoron.

Second, Trump mentioned wheat was an export. It is. He didn't quantify it in any way, just said they (Japan) didn't even want it. Could/should be have picked another agricultural product? Sure. But there is no lie.

You people need to start paying rent on all the space Trump has in your heads.

The US navy should just pay a port call at Hanoi, Vietnam and I guarantee you the Chinese military bigwigs would have a hissy fit! US can also, build a naval base in Vietnam and they would be welcomed with open arms with Vietnam-China having a huge conflict over China surveying and trying to drill off waters in Vietnam's territory!
