I feel like most of the public is loathe to be forced to move their quality of life backward to comply with a random gov't mandate that fails to serve the purpose so widely claimed in the media. There may come a day when EVs or alternatives to the ICE are viable, sensible and their construction and life cycle is indeed better for the planet - but we are nowhere close to that point today.
There was a time oil and coal were subsidized yuugly. Not peep was said about it. Still is to certain extent, especially in the developing world. Why hold non-polluting renewables to a different standard?
